Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner Spotted Filming an Intense Street Argument For the ‘Possession’ Remake

Cult horror remakes rarely arrive without controversy, and this particular project has carried plenty of anticipation since it was first announced. Adapting one of the most disturbing psychological horror films ever made comes with obvious risk, but the creative team behind it has made clear they intend to embrace that reputation rather than soften it.

That ambition is now playing out in real time on the streets of New Jersey, where production on Parker Finn’s remake of ‘Possession‘ has been steadily rolling forward. Fresh set photos this week captured stars Margaret Qualley and Callum Turner filming an intense confrontation scene, giving fans their latest glimpse at how the reimagined psychological horror film is taking shape.

The new images show Qualley in a striking purple dress engaged in a heated argument with Turner in the middle of an intersection, with his gray sweater visibly stained with blood droplets during the exchange. That kind of raw, physically charged confrontation lines up closely with earlier set photos showing Qualley running screaming through the streets, distraught and dressed entirely in black during a separate sequence filmed just days prior.

Qualley is stepping into the lead role of Anna, originated by Isabelle Adjani in Andrzej Zulawski’s 1981 cult classic, while Turner takes on the role of her husband Mark, previously played by the late Sam Neill. The original film follows a woman whose increasingly disturbing behavior after asking for a divorce spirals from suspected infidelity into something far more sinister and supernatural.

Finn, best known for creating the acclaimed ‘Smile’ horror franchise, is writing, directing and producing this new interpretation for Paramount Pictures, with Robert Pattinson also attached as a producer. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Finn described the original as one of his absolute favorite films of all time, promising a viciously sharp and insane film that honors the original while exploring some new territory of its own.

That commitment to honoring the source material while pushing it further comes with high stakes given the original’s notoriously unsettling reputation. Set in Cold War-era West Berlin, the 1981 film has been described as a raw meditation on marriage, reportedly written by Zulawski as a direct reaction to his own crumbling relationship at the time.

Paul Dano and Diego Calva round out the film’s supporting cast in still undisclosed roles, joining a production that reportedly sparked a bidding war among major studios including A24, Netflix, Sony and Warner Bros before Paramount ultimately secured the rights. That level of competition among studios speaks to just how much industry interest this particular remake has generated well before a single frame reached audiences.

Adding to the film’s distinctive approach, Finn is shooting the entire project on thirty-five millimeter film, a choice that suggests a deliberate visual departure from the slicker, digitally polished look that has defined much of modern horror filmmaking. That decision fits within Finn’s stated goal of creating something that feels genuinely in dialogue with the original rather than simply modernizing it for a new audience.

Finn has also been direct about wanting to honor longtime fans of the original alongside newcomers discovering the story for the first time. He explained that while the film is being made for a broad audience, he specifically hopes fans of Zulawski’s original will give this new version a real chance once it finally arrives.
