Marisa Tomei’s Has Unfinished Business in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ According to Latest Leak

Few characters in the MCU have left a wound as deep as Aunt May, and it seems Marvel has no intention of letting that wound fully close before ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ hits theaters.

After the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ Peter Parker is left completely alone and grieving, with the world having forgotten his true identity following Doctor Strange’s memory-erasing spell. The upcoming film will revolve heavily around Peter’s isolation and the evolution his character is forced to undergo, with nobody remembering him and his Aunt gone, leaving him with no support system for when things go truly wrong.

For the first time in Spider-Man’s live-action history, May Parker will not appear alongside her nephew in a Spider-Man solo film. Marisa Tomei debuted as Aunt May in 2016’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and went on to appear in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ and ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ before May was tragically killed. Her absence has been one of the most emotionally charged talking points surrounding the new film.

That absence may not be as total as fans first feared. According to a leak shared by a prominent Marvel insider, Marisa Tomei is set to return as Aunt May in a flashback sequence for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ with the scene most likely depicting the moment May discovers that Peter is Spider-Man.

That pivotal moment was established in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ when May walked in on Peter in his suit, leaving his secret identity no longer secret. A dedicated flashback built around that revelation could give the MCU a chance to explore territory that was never fully dramatized on screen.

Fueling the speculation further, prominent scooper MyTimeToShineHello posted what appears to be leaked flashback dialogue involving Aunt May, with the line reading, “I know this whole thing can get really scary, but I want you to remember your responsibility. Never forget it, no matter how powerful you become.”

The scooper has reported accurately on several occasions in the past, though since most of the leaked dialogue has not appeared in any official trailer, its authenticity will only become clear once the film is released.

The film’s story is expected to center on a genetic mutation that Peter undergoes, opening up possibilities for hallucinations and deeply personal moments of introspection that pull him back toward memories of May.

A leaked synopsis teases that Peter Parker will undergo a genetic mutation that unlocks organic webbing but costs him control of his body, with the street-level story involving Scorpion, the Hulk, and the Punisher shaping up to be unlike any Spider-Man film before it.

Director Destin Daniel Cretton has described ‘Brand New Day’ as a new chapter for the character, with Tom Holland himself calling it a rebirth rather than a sequel. The film is set for release on July 31, 2026, with confirmed cast members including Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Jacob Batalon, and Mark Ruffalo reprising his role as Bruce Banner.

If Tomei does appear in a flashback, her return would close an emotional loop that has haunted Peter Parker since ‘No Way Home,’ and remind audiences just how much that loss still defines who he is now.

Whether this scene makes the final cut remains to be seen, but the idea of May finally confronting Peter’s double life in a moment we never got to fully witness is exactly the kind of storytelling that has always made this version of Spider-Man so compelling. How do you think a May flashback could shape Peter’s arc in ‘Brand New Day,’ and is this the emotional gut punch the film needs?
