Mark Ruffalo Tells Kevin O’Leary To Shut Up After Billie Eilish Grammys Remarks
Mark Ruffalo jumped into a heated online debate this week, and he did not hold back. The actor spoke out after Kevin O’Leary criticized Billie Eilish for using her Grammys speech to make a political statement.
The situation started after the 68th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 1. Billie Eilish won Song of the Year for Wildflower and used her moment on stage to speak about immigration. During her speech, she said that no one is illegal on stolen land and ended with the words f**k ICE. The crowd inside the venue responded with loud applause, according to footage from the live broadcast.
Not everyone was impressed. Kevin O’Leary reacted during an appearance on Fox News, where he argued that celebrities should stay quiet about politics. He said that when performers reach a certain level of fame, they should shut their mouths and just entertain. He also warned that taking political positions can push away large parts of an audience.
Mark Ruffalo clearly disagreed. He responded on Threads, directly calling out O’Leary and telling him to S*FU. Ruffalo accused the businessman of having a double standard, pointing out that O’Leary regularly shares his own opinions on public platforms but expects entertainers to stay silent.

Ruffalo also took a personal jab at O’Leary by mentioning his recent acting role. He referenced the film Marty Supreme, where O’Leary plays a ruthless businessman, and suggested on Threads that he played the part a little too well. The comment implied that the character was not far from O’Leary’s real-life image.
Billie Eilish was not alone in the backlash. Her brother and longtime collaborator Finneas also defended her online. He mocked the criticism coming from what he described as very powerful old white men and suggested they were missing the point of her message.
As reported by social media posts and television appearances, the argument quickly spread across the internet, with fans and critics choosing sides.
While the online drama played out, Ruffalo has been staying busy with his acting career. As of February, he is starring in the new crime thriller Crime 101, which was released in theaters on February 13. In the film, he plays Detective Lou Lubesnick opposite Chris Hemsworth. According to early reviews, the movie has been praised for its tense cat-and-mouse story and grounded performances.
