Marvel Producer Says Some MCU Fans Can Be “Very Mean”

Marvel Studios executive producer Sana Amanat recently talked about how some Marvel fans can be harsh, especially when it comes to the new Daredevil: Born Again series.
The show is a fresh version of the Daredevil series that was on Netflix from 2015 to 2018. While it brings back some familiar characters, it also changes the style and pacing. This has caused mixed feelings among fans.
Amanat and showrunner Dario Scardapane appeared on the April 7 episode of the #TalkDaredevil podcast to talk about the show and how fans reacted. Amanat, who has been with Marvel since 2009 and helped create Kamala Khan (aka Ms. Marvel), has seen many types of fan feedback over the years.
She said, “Because I’ve been at Marvel for so long, I’ve seen every reaction. I know how the fan community is, and, y’know, sometimes it can be very mean!“
Some fans of the original Netflix Daredevil series have been very vocal, especially those who wanted the new show to stay exactly the same. But Amanat said those upset fans are not the majority. Most of the audience, she believes, are supportive and excited.
“For the most part, I have found it to be a really wonderful community where we get inspiration from them. I feel like there’s a lot of great ideas too. We’re listening,” she said.
Even though the creators are open to hearing fan opinions, Amanat explained that they can’t always do exactly what fans want.
“It is absolutely a balance,” she said. “Y’know, there’s some things we’re like, ‘Oh yeah, that is interesting!’ And then of course there are others where we’re like, ‘No, there’s a different direction’ and like Dario said, hopefully you’re gonna love it, y’know?“
She added that the team working on the show are fans themselves. So while their choices may differ from what some people expect, they are still coming from a place of love and passion.
“We do want fans to be happy and excited because also, y’know, we’re fans! And we want to be happy and excited. So we’re always gonna come from that place. We’ll just maybe have different tastes at times.“
