Marvel Reportedly Eyes New Project Spotlighting Beloved Defender

Before Disney+ expanded the MCU into the powerhouse it is today, Netflix quietly built its own interconnected superhero world known as The Defenders Saga. This collection of shows, including fan favorites like Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, introduced darker, grittier takes on flawed, complex heroes navigating morally gray worlds.
Among them, Jessica Jones stood out for its exploration of trauma, power, and identity through the lens of a tough, anti-hero detective.
For years, fans have debated whether The Defenders Saga should be considered part of the official MCU. The lines have grown blurrier with recent Marvel projects such as Echo and Daredevil: Born Again, which strongly hint at integrating those characters into the broader MCU narrative.
With Charlie Cox’s Daredevil officially confirmed to be reintroduced into the MCU, it was only a matter of time before the rest of the Defenders started making their way back. This hope became a reality a few weeks ago when it was announced that Krysten Ritter will reprise her iconic role as Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
While details about her role remain tightly under wraps, recent set leaks have shown scenes involving both Ritter and Cox, fueling excitement among fans eager to see how these characters reunite.
Adding to the buzz, well-known industry insider Daniel Richtman recently reported on his Patreon that Marvel is reportedly considering developing a new Jessica Jones project set squarely within the MCU. While this news is still unconfirmed and should be taken with some skepticism, it’s far from surprising given Marvel’s previous hints.
Back in 2023, Marvel Television and Animation head Brad Winderbaum openly expressed his desire to continue Jessica Jones’s story. At the D23 event in Brazil, when asked which character he wanted to see more of in the MCU, Winderbaum didn’t hesitate: “Jessica Jones.” This statement excited fans worldwide, and reached Ritter herself.
In response, Krysten Ritter shared her enthusiasm publicly, urging Winderbaum to make the project happen:
“Brad Winderbaum said that? That’s really exciting to hear. Isn’t that the guy who makes the call? Come on, Brad! Let’s get it going. Let’s do it. I’ll be ready.”
While Ritter’s wish hasn’t fully come true yet, her return in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 at least marks a step toward bringing her character back to the spotlight. Whether this rumored new Jessica Jones series will be a direct continuation or a fresh reboot remains unknown. Given her upcoming appearance in Born Again, a continuation seems the most likely path.
Jessica isn’t the only Defender fans expect to see again. Rumors have circulated that Iron Fist will also make a comeback, while Luke Cage is believed to be poised for a bigger role in the MCU moving forward.
There was also chatter about a Heroes for Hire project, a team-up featuring Luke Cage and Iron Fist, that generated significant buzz a few months ago, but since then, updates have been scarce.
As the MCU continues to evolve and absorb beloved characters from previous shows, fans are eager to see how these heroes will be reimagined and reunited on screen.
