Marvel’s New Doctor Doom Figure Might Be the Best Look Yet at Robert Downey Jr.’s Villain in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Merchandise reveals have quietly become one of Marvel Studios’ most reliable ways of building anticipation between trailers, often offering fans a clearer look at costumes and character design than the marketing itself provides. That’s especially true for a project as tightly guarded as ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘, where every new image feels like a small victory for fans desperate for details.
Since the film was first announced, Robert Downey Jr.’s transformation from Tony Stark into the villainous Doctor Doom has remained one of the most anticipated reveals of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga. Official trailers have offered only glimpses so far, keeping much of Doom’s design shrouded in mystery and shadow.
That’s part of what makes the latest wave of Hot Toys collectibles so significant. Hot Toys has unveiled its highly detailed 1/6th-scale Doctor Doom figure, giving fans arguably their clearest and most complete look yet at Downey Jr.’s take on the iconic Marvel villain ahead of the film’s December release.
Standing approximately 31 centimeters tall with around 30 points of articulation, the figure showcases a newly developed masked head featuring separated rolling eyeballs, allowing collectors to adjust Doom’s gaze for dynamic posing. The armor itself has been recreated with striking attention to detail, layering silver-toned plating over a dark green undersuit and a tunic finished with a distinct square grid texture.
Doom’s signature dark green hooded cloak stands out as one of the figure’s most elaborate elements, built with bendable wire for posing flexibility and secured with magnetically detachable clasps connected by a genuine metal chain. Rounding out the costume are chainmail sleeves, armored gauntlets, a fabric arm wrap, a black belt with a silver buckle, and matching greaves and sabatons that echo Doom’s imposing presence throughout the film.
Hot Toys is releasing the figure across two tiers, starting with a lighter “Early Access” version before offering a more accessory-heavy “Ultimate Edition” for dedicated collectors. That premium version reportedly includes a Sentinel hand display piece along with a mysterious book resembling the Darkhold, alongside at least one additional accessory Hot Toys has yet to fully reveal.
For collectors who want the full presentation, Hot Toys is also selling a separate Doom’s Throne piece, giving fans the chance to display the villain in a suitably regal seated pose befitting Latveria’s ruler. Pre-orders are already live through Sideshow Collectibles, with pricing starting at $285 for the Early Access figure and $390 for the Ultimate Edition, and a release window currently set for March 2027.
Doctor Doom isn’t traveling alone in this particular Hot Toys wave, either. The same rollout includes figures for several X-Men characters appearing in the film, including Ian McKellen’s Magneto, James Marsden’s Cyclops, and Channing Tatum’s Gambit, with Beast and Professor X confirmed as upcoming additions to the lineup.
That expanding roster only reinforces just how sprawling ‘Avengers: Doomsday’s ensemble is shaping up to be, blending X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four elements into a single crossover event. With Doom positioned as the connective threat pulling all of these factions together, it’s no surprise merchandise like this is generating just as much buzz as the trailers themselves.
For fans who’ve spent months piecing together fragments of Doom’s design from trailer footage and set photos, this Hot Toys figure offers something closer to a definitive answer. Whether it fully matches what audiences see on screen come December remains to be seen, but for now, it’s the most complete glimpse of the MCU’s next great villain that fans have gotten.
