Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ Reboot: The Other Actor Who Almost Played Cyclops Has Been Revealed

According to John Rocha, Asa Butterfield and Kit Connor emerged as the final two contenders for the role of Cyclops in Marvel’s ‘X-Men‘ film. Following the deliberation process, Kit Connor ultimately landed the part, securing one of the franchise’s most pivotal positions. The 22-year-old British actor is best known for his breakout role as Nick Nelson in Netflix’s ‘Heartstopper,’ a series that catapulted him to international recognition and demonstrated his capacity to carry dramatic narratives with emotional depth and authenticity.
Deadline confirmed that Connor will play Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops, marking him as the third actor to portray the character in live-action following James Marsden’s tenure in Fox’s original trilogy and Tye Sheridan’s appearance in the later franchise installments. Connor joins an increasingly prominent cast that includes Sadie Sink, who will reprise her role as Jean Grey following her debut in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ and Samara Weaving, who was recently cast as Emma Frost, the telekinetic White Queen.
Connor’s film resume has expanded considerably in recent years beyond his television success. He voiced Brightbill in DreamWorks’ animated feature ‘The Wild Robot’ and appeared in the A24 war film ‘Warfare’ directed by Alex Garland. His upcoming projects include a role in the video game adaptation ‘Elden Ring,’ scheduled for theatrical release in 2028. These diverse performances have showcased his range and ability to handle material across multiple genres and mediums.
The ‘X-Men’ reboot represents a significant milestone for Marvel Studios as it marks the franchise’s formal integration into the MCU following Disney’s acquisition of Fox and its vast library of mutant characters.
