‘Maserati: The Brothers’ Trailer Brings Together Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, and a Legendary Car Dynasty

Hollywood’s fascination with fast cars and family empires shows no signs of slowing down, and the latest entry in that trend is aiming to pull from two of the industry’s most respected leading men. After a wave of automotive biopics dramatizing the rise of Italy’s most legendary car brands, one of the genre’s most star-studded entries yet is finally ready to show what it’s built.

That entry is ‘Maserati: The Brothers,’ and its first official trailer has just arrived courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter. The period drama traces the story of the Maserati family and their pursuit of automotive glory, shot on location in Modena, Italy’s automotive capital, as well as at Rome’s historic Cinecittà Studios.

The film centers on the Maserati brothers, Alfieri, Bindo, and Carlo, played respectively by Michele Morrone, Salvatore Esposito, and Lorenzo De Moor, as they chase the Indianapolis 500, a race the real Maserati brand famously won in both 1939 and 1940. Surrounding that central trio is a cast loaded with Oscar pedigree, including Al Pacino as businessman Vincenzo Vaccaro, an early investor and champion of the Maserati family, alongside Anthony Hopkins as another early backer of the brothers’ ambitions.

Jessica Alba and Andy Garcia round out the film’s marquee names, joining a cast that reflects just how much awards-caliber talent producers assembled for the project. Pacino and Hopkins have combined for three Best Actor Oscars between them, while director Robert Moresco has his own Academy Award for co-writing ‘Crash’ back in 2005. Garcia has also received an Oscar nomination during his career, giving the ensemble a genuine weight of prestige behind the camera as well as in front of it.

Moresco directs from a script written by Amanda Moresco and Stefano Torrisi, continuing a filmmaking partnership built specifically around this niche of Italian automotive history. ‘Maserati: The Brothers’ comes from producers The Andrea Iervolino Company, marking the studio’s third biopic centered on a legendary Italian car brand.

That track record includes 2022’s ‘Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend,’ which starred Frank Grillo as Ferruccio Lamborghini, giving Iervolino’s team direct experience turning this kind of family-empire storytelling into a theatrical release. A fourth entry in that unofficial series is already in the works too, with a Bugatti biopic centered on the life of Ettore Bugatti currently in development.

The broader genre has proven itself commercially viable in recent years, most notably with Michael Mann’s 2024 film ‘Ferrari,’ which starred Adam Driver as Enzo Ferrari and helped cement audience appetite for these kinds of prestige-driven, motorsport-adjacent dramas. With ‘F1’ also finding box office success more recently, studios clearly see continued demand for stories set in the world of high-performance racing, even when the focus leans more toward boardroom drama than track-side action.

Whether ‘Maserati: The Brothers’ can carve out its own identity next to ‘Ferrari’ and ‘Lamborghini’ remains to be seen, but the cast alone gives it a strong case for standing out. With production wrapped across two of Italy’s most storied filmmaking locations and a script built around one of motorsport’s most celebrated underdog victories, the film is positioning itself as a serious awards-season contender within the genre.
