Matt Reeves has confirmed that Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone will not appear in The Batman: Part II, despite earlier rumors suggesting the character would have a major role. Speaking to MTV, Reeves explained that the story was already too far along in development to include her.

“Cristin’s not in this one, but that’s because we were so deep into the script by the time we were in the show, so… but we’ll see. I mean, I think she’s incredible. What she did in the show is just astonishing,” he said. Reeves added that the character’s version, created by Lauren, is unique and special, and hinted that there may be future opportunities to explore her story.

“She is not in this one in full disclosure, just because we were so far along in the story. It might upset the applecart, let’s say, given where the story goes, and that we were exploring,” Reeves explained.

The Batman: Part II is scheduled for release on October 1, 2027, with Robert Pattinson returning as Batman. Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell will also reprise their roles as Jim Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, and the Penguin.

Reeves co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin, and filming is set to begin in January 2026 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England. The sequel will continue exploring Gotham City’s corruption and divisions following the flooding depicted in The Batman and the events of The Penguin.

Reeves also shared thoughts about the future of The Penguin spinoff series and his wider Batman crime saga. “Obviously the priority has been getting the movie into prep. We are now in prep. So that’s really what the priority’s been,” he said.

He noted that further seasons or spinoffs would need stories that truly make sense for the characters. “If we can find something that we think is truly a story that’s better than the first and we’re telling then we know that Colin would be up for [season 2] but short of that he’s not going to be up for it, none of us are going to be up for it. Lauren won’t be up for it. So the answer is we’d love to do more things, but they have to be the things that first of all fit within whatever,” Reeves explained.

At the end of the first season of The Penguin, Ozz Cobb rises to the top of Gotham’s criminal hierarchy, while Sofia Falcone ends up back in Arkham Asylum, contracted by Catwoman. Fans have speculated about potential new storylines, but Reeves confirmed that her role in the film will not continue.

Tt makes sense that Reeves is prioritizing the main story for The Batman: Part II before bringing in additional characters. While fans may be disappointed, this approach could lead to a tighter and more focused film. What do you think about Sofia Falcone being left out of the sequel? Share your thoughts in the comments.
