Universal Pictures has officially announced that the new Miami Vice movie will hit theaters on August 6, 2027. Filming is set to start next year, and casting is currently underway.

The film will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, who recently helmed the hit movies F1: The Movie and Top Gun: Maverick.

Kosinski will explore the flashy and dangerous world of mid-1980s Miami, inspired by the pilot and first season of the original Miami Vice television series. The movie will also be shot for IMAX, giving fans a bigger, more immersive experience.

The movie is produced by Dylan Clark, known for The Batman, along with Kosinski. The script is written by Dan Gilroy and Eric Singer and is based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich. The original series was executive produced by Yerkovich and Michael Mann.

Miami Vice originally aired from 1984 to 1990 on NBC and starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as undercover Miami police officers. The show became famous for its stylish visuals, pastel suits, and cultural influence.

Michael Mann, who was an executive producer on the show, told The Hollywood Reporter last year, “The ambition of the show was to break the form of everything that had come before.”

A 2006 version of the movie, directed by Mann and starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell, earned $163.7 million worldwide. The new version aims to bring fresh energy while staying true to the iconic style of the original series.

This new Miami Vice promises action, style, and a deeper look into the glamorous and corrupt world of 1980s Miami. Fans will have to wait until August 2027 to see how it all comes together on the big screen.
