Michael B. Jordan Reacts to David Jonsson Joining ‘Black Panther 3’ as Black Panther — Fans Are Loving It
Michael B. Jordan has shared his excitement about David Jonsson stepping into a major role in Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther 3.
The actor was asked about Jonsson’s casting during the premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in Los Angeles. Entertainment Tonight caught up with Jordan at the event and asked him what he thought about Marvel choosing Jonsson to play an adult version of T’Challa’s son in Ryan Coogler’s next Black Panther movie.
Jordan did not hesitate when sharing his reaction. The Oscar-winning actor made it clear that he is excited to see where the story goes, saying, “Oh, I love it. It’s amazing! I can’t wait, can’t wait!”
The casting news was first revealed during Comic-Con 2026, where Marvel announced that David Jonsson would join Black Panther 3 as the grown-up son of T’Challa, the character originally played by Chadwick Boseman in the 2018 movie. The upcoming film is also set to be shot on 70mm film and is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 15, 2028.
Jonsson’s casting marks a major new chapter for the franchise, especially after the loss of Boseman in 2020. Boseman passed away at the age of 43 after battling colon cancer, leaving a lasting impact on the Marvel universe and on the people who worked with him.
Jordan, who played Erik Killmonger in the first Black Panther movie and returned for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, has always spoken highly of Boseman. The two actors developed a close friendship while working together, and Jordan previously shared an emotional tribute after Boseman’s death.
In that message, Jordan reflected on the bond they shared, writing, “One of the last times we spoke, you said we were forever linked, and now the truth of that means more to me than ever.” He also added, “I wish we had more time.”
While Marvel has not officially confirmed whether Jordan will return as Killmonger in Black Panther 3, his connection to the franchise and his relationship with director Ryan Coogler continue to make fans wonder if he could appear again.
Jordan has remained one of Coogler’s closest creative partners over the years. The actor recently won his first Oscar for his role in Coogler’s film Sinners, and during his acceptance season, he continued to honor Boseman’s memory.
Earlier this year at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where Jordan received the Outstanding Performer of the Year Award, he spoke about how much Boseman still means to him. Jordan explained that he felt Boseman’s presence while making Sinners and shared how difficult it has been knowing they will never work together again.
“I loved that guy so much,” Jordan said. “And it saddens me every time I think about it that I won’t get a chance to work with him again.”
With David Jonsson now joining the Black Panther legacy, fans are eager to see how Marvel and Ryan Coogler continue the story. Jordan’s positive reaction suggests that those involved with the franchise are excited about this next era, but audiences will have to wait until 2028 to see how the new chapter unfolds.
