Kevin Feige Finally Gives an Update on ‘Black Panther 3’ and Reveals What’s Next for Wakanda

Marvel Studios has spent the past year carefully managing expectations around its post-Fantastic Four slate, keeping details about several major upcoming projects deliberately vague even as fan anticipation continues to build. With Comic Con just days away and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ finally ready for release, Kevin Feige found himself fielding questions about virtually everything on the studio’s horizon.

That included one of the most anticipated follow-ups currently in Marvel’s pipeline, a film that has been quietly developing behind the scenes with relatively little concrete information making its way to fans. Naturally, Feige’s answer managed to reveal almost nothing while still generating plenty of buzz.

Asked directly whether ‘Black Panther 3‘ could realistically begin filming next year, Feige offered a characteristically coy response. Speaking with Collider, Feige simply answered “Maybe. Maybe” when pressed on the film’s potential production timeline.

That kind of noncommittal answer has become something of a signature move for Feige when discussing projects still in early development. He gave an identical response when asked about casting updates for Jake Schreier’s upcoming X-Men film, suggesting both projects remain firmly in the planning stages rather than anywhere close to a formal announcement.

Despite the lack of concrete details, ‘Black Panther 3’ has been confirmed as moving forward for some time now. Ryan Coogler is expected to return to direct the film, which is widely believed to be targeting a 2028 release window based on Marvel’s broader release calendar.

Reports have also indicated that ‘Black Panther 3’ currently sits among Marvel’s top priorities for its post-Doomsday era, alongside the studio’s X-Men relaunch. That kind of prioritization suggests the franchise remains a significant focus for Marvel even as specific production details stay under wraps.

The timing of Feige’s comments lines up with a particularly busy stretch for the Marvel boss. He is currently juggling the final promotional push for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ preparations for Marvel’s return to Hall H at San Diego Comic Con, and ongoing work on ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ which hits theaters this December.

Feige’s Comic Con return itself carries extra significance given the studio’s absence from the panel last year. His comments hinted at the kind of surprises fans have come to expect from Marvel’s Hall H presentations, joking that going to the panel is always about saving a few reveals rather than tipping his hand early.

Marvel’s broader release slate remains packed for the next several years, with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ following ‘Doomsday’ in December 2027. Beyond those confirmed tentpoles, projects like a potential Shang-Chi sequel and the eventual X-Men film continue moving through development alongside Black Panther’s next chapter.

With so many moving pieces across Marvel’s expanding slate, it makes sense that Feige would keep details about a project as far out as ‘Black Panther 3’ deliberately vague for now. Still, even a noncommittal maybe from the Marvel boss is enough to keep fans buzzing about when Wakanda’s next big screen chapter might actually begin coming together.
