Movie premieres are usually reserved for the cast, but every once in a while, a familiar face shows up for reasons that have nothing to do with the film itself. That’s exactly what happened at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’, where one unexpected guest quickly became a talking point of the night.

The premiere took place Monday, July 27, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, marking the final major stop on the film’s global press tour before its theatrical release. Cast members and Hollywood stars packed the red carpet for what has become one of the most anticipated superhero releases of the year.

Among them was Michael B. Jordan, who isn’t part of the ‘Brand New Day’ cast at all. His attendance quickly became one of the night’s most talked-about surprises, with fans thrilled to see the ‘Creed’ and ‘Black Panther’ star show up at Marvel’s latest premiere.

Jordan leaned into the moment by wearing a Spider-Man graphic t-shirt to the event, paying tribute to the night’s guest of honor while keeping his own look casually on theme. It was a small but pointed detail that fans immediately picked up on, especially given that Jordan has his own history within the larger Marvel universe.

That connection traces back to his role in ‘Black Panther’, which already ties him loosely into the Marvel family, though his presence at this particular premiere had a more personal motivation behind it. Jordan was reportedly there to support director Destin Daniel Cretton, with whom he previously worked on the 2019 film ‘Just Mercy’.

That collaboration meant something significant for Jordan’s career. His performance in ‘Just Mercy’, which Cretton directed and co-wrote, earned Jordan the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture. Showing up for Cretton’s biggest directing gig yet seems to have been less about Spider-Man and more about showing up for a longtime collaborator.

Jordan wasn’t the only surprise face in the crowd, either. Jaden Smith and his brother Trey Smith were also among the special guests at the event, alongside Jordan’s ‘Sinners’ co-star Miles Caton, who walked the red carpet as well.

Social media lit up with footage of Jordan mingling with the film’s stars throughout the night, including a warm moment where he was seen hugging Tom Holland while showing his support. It was a nice full-circle moment for a premiere already stacked with star power, adding an unscripted layer of goodwill to an otherwise tightly orchestrated press tour stop.

With the film’s marketing campaign now in its final stretch, appearances like Jordan’s have only added to the buzz surrounding ‘Brand New Day’ heading into its theatrical debut. Whether or not Jordan has any future ties to the Spider-Man corner of the MCU remains unknown, but for one night, his support for a friend turned into one of the premiere’s most talked-about moments.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ swings into theaters on July 31.
