‘Michael’ Box Office Breaks Records With Rare Double Milestone as Biopic Continues Its Winning Streak
The Michael Jackson biopic Michael continues its strong run at the global box office, reaching two major milestones in its sixth weekend in theaters. According to box office reports cited from Box Office Mojo, the film has now crossed $850 million worldwide and secured a top spot in Lionsgate’s all-time rankings.
In North America, the film earned $11.7 million over its sixth weekend. That number is down 43.2% from the previous weekend, especially after losing 188 theaters. Even with the drop, the film has now reached $339.9 million domestically. This total pushes it past The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, which previously held a higher position. As a result, Michael is now the third-highest-grossing film ever released by Lionsgate in the domestic market.
Internationally, the movie is also performing strongly. It brought in $20.1 million in its sixth weekend overseas, showing a smaller drop of 30.9% compared to the previous week. The international total now stands at $511.4 million across 83 markets. When combined with the domestic total, the worldwide gross reaches $851.3 million.
This puts Michael firmly into elite box office territory. It has now become the third-highest-grossing biopic of all time worldwide. It has overtaken the Chinese film Hi Mom, which previously held that position with $821.7 million globally.
The biopic, which stars Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson, has continued to show strong staying power even weeks after release. Its performance suggests steady audience interest both in the United States and internationally, with no major signs of a sudden slowdown.
Industry projections suggest the film could still climb higher. With upcoming releases planned in major markets like Japan and Russia, there is potential for additional earnings in the coming weeks. If momentum continues, analysts say the film could even approach the $1 billion mark worldwide, although that outcome will depend on how well it holds in new territories.
The film was released on April 24, and has remained one of the most talked-about releases of the year. Its strong box office performance places it among the biggest biographical films ever released, both in terms of earnings and global reach.

According to box office data sources, the current breakdown stands at $339.9 million domestic and $511.4 million international, bringing the worldwide total to $851.3 million.
The success of Michael also highlights the continued global appeal of music-based biopics, especially those centered on major cultural figures. Even weeks after release, the film is still drawing audiences and maintaining a strong position in the global box office charts.
As the film continues its theatrical run, its performance will be closely watched to see whether it can climb even higher in global rankings or secure a place among the rare billion-dollar biopics.
