Michael Fassbender’s Spy Thriller ‘The Agency’ Season 2 Scores Rare Rotten Tomatoes Achievement
Michael Fassbender’s spy thriller The Agency is back with its second season, and the new episodes are already getting strong reactions from critics. The Paramount+ series returned after ending its first season in January 2025, with Fassbender once again leading the cast as Brandon Colby, also known as Martian.
Season 2 arrived with all 10 episodes available to stream on Paramount+, giving fans the chance to continue Martian’s dangerous journey inside the world of international espionage. Shortly after the release, critics began sharing their reviews, and the series made an impressive debut on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Agency season 2 currently holds a 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the score is based on only five critic reviews so far, meaning the rating could change as more reviews are added in the coming days and weeks.

Even with the limited number of reviews, early reactions suggest that critics are impressed by the show’s second chapter. Many reviewers have praised Fassbender’s performance, the more focused storytelling, and the show’s ability to maintain its tense spy atmosphere.
Ryan Britt from Inverse gave the season a positive review, praising the series for avoiding common spy thriller problems. He wrote that “The Agency continues to channel the John le Carré spirit, with modern binge-worthy propulsion.”
Giovanni Lago from Next Best Picture also praised the new season, giving it an 8/10 score. According to Lago, creators Jez and John-Henry Butterworth successfully built on what worked in the first season without making unnecessary changes. He noted that the improvements helped the series become stronger overall.
Critic Kaiya Shunyata from RogerEbert.com highlighted the final episodes of the season, saying the story reaches an impressive conclusion. She praised the way the different storylines come together and described the ending as a powerful continuation of the show.
Screen Rant critic Felipe Rangel gave the season a perfect 10/10 score and focused heavily on Fassbender’s performance. Rangel described the actor’s work as an “acting masterclass” and praised the way he brings depth and complexity to Martian.
Not every review was completely positive, though. Andrew Murray from The Upcoming gave the season 3/5 stars, saying that while the focus on the main story was an improvement, the pacing remained a problem for some viewers.
The second season of The Agency comes after Paramount+ renewed the series in December 2024. The show officially returned on June 21, 2026, as a Paramount+ Original, continuing the story of a CIA agent forced to balance his dangerous career with personal struggles.
Fassbender’s return as Martian remains one of the biggest highlights of the series. The actor has received praise for playing a character who is intelligent, complicated, and constantly under pressure. As more reviews arrive, The Agency season 2’s Rotten Tomatoes score may change, but the early response suggests that the spy drama has made a strong comeback.
