There is a very specific kind of stunt that only works when the actor pulling it has decades of goodwill behind him. Mike Myers has been building toward exactly that kind of moment for a while now, dropping just enough breadcrumbs to keep ‘Austin Powers‘ fans checking his social media on a near-weekly basis.

It started back in June, when Myers reunited with several of his old castmates for a Verizon commercial that brought Dr. Evil, Number Two, and Frau Farbissina back into the same room for the first time in years. He followed that up almost immediately with a cryptic Instagram post hinting that “getting this band back together” might not have been a one-time thing.

Now Myers has escalated things again. The comedy legend shared image on Instagram with a meme “I hear Austin Powers 4 is happening…”

It is a wink of a post, the kind that gives fans nothing concrete while still managing to dominate the conversation for another news cycle. That has more or less been the pattern since a fan directly asked Myers about a fourth ‘Austin Powers’ film during an appearance on Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party, and Myers responded with a single-word answer that sent the internet into overdrive.

Mike Myers Breaks His Silence on ‘Austin Powers 4’

The ‘Austin Powers’ trilogy wrapped more than two decades ago with ‘Goldmember’ in 2002, yet the character has never really left pop culture. Between constant references, parody homages and now a rotating cast of viral teases from Myers himself, the appetite for a fourth entry has clearly stuck around even without a single official plot detail to fuel it.

Franchise director Jay Roach has acknowledged for years that any continuation ultimately comes down to Myers finding the right creative spark. He told Deadline that he would never rule out a return but that it all depends on Mike having something that inspires him.

Myers has previously said he would want any new film to center more heavily on Dr. Evil rather than Austin himself, a shift that would give the story a different angle after three movies built around the International Man of Mystery. Whether that idea has finally taken shape behind the scenes remains unclear, but the frequency of these recent teases suggests something is at least brewing.

None of this confirms a script, a cast list, or a release date, and Myers has offered zero elaboration beyond his playful hints. Still, the pattern of events, from the Verizon reunion to the cryptic captions to now an actual skywriting-style banner, has fans convinced that this time feels different from the usual speculation cycle.

The original trilogy grossed well over half a billion dollars worldwide for New Line Cinema and turned catchphrases like “Yeah, baby, yeah” into permanent fixtures of the cultural lexicon. A fourth film built around that kind of nostalgia, especially with the emotional weight of honoring the late Verne Troyer’s Mini-Me, would arrive with sky-high expectations attached.

Do you think Austin Powers 4 is actually happening?

For now, fans are left parsing plane banners and Instagram captions the same way they might a movie trailer, looking for any hint of what a new ‘Austin Powers’ story might actually look like.
