The press tour circuit for one of this summer’s biggest superhero releases has taken an unexpectedly festive turn, blending Hollywood glitz with the unmistakable energy of international soccer fever. As the countdown to the next chapter of the rebooted DC Universe continues, the cast has been crisscrossing the globe to build buzz ahead of release day.

That promotional tour landed somewhere especially lively this past weekend, with the team touching down in one of the world’s most vibrant cities at the perfect moment. Rio de Janeiro became the latest stop on a global rollout that has already taken the cast through multiple countries in the lead up to the film’s debut.

On Sunday, Milly Alcock turned heads at the Brazilian premiere of Supergirl, held at the Museu de Amanha in Rio de Janeiro. The 26-year-old star of the upcoming DC movie continued her promotional tour for the project with a red carpet appearance, drawing attention from fans and entertainment outlets covering the event.

The Brazil stop carried extra significance given its timing. Alcock arrived in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday alongside director Craig Gillespie, screenwriter Ana Nogueira, and DC Studios producer and co CEO Peter Safran for the Brazilian leg of the Supergirl promotional tour. Given that the team landed in the city right as Brazil kicked off its 2026 World Cup campaign, the group could not resist soaking up some of that local excitement.

Part of the cast and crew arrived in Brazil on Saturday and took the opportunity to watch the Brazilian national team’s World Cup opener together, getting swept up in the energy of the crowd. Alcock even leaned into the moment by stepping out in a Brazil football jersey, a look that quickly caught the eye of fans and media tracking the tour.

The group’s itinerary in Rio extends beyond just the red carpet premiere. The cast and crew are scheduled to remain in Rio de Janeiro through Monday, with a fan event for Supergirl also on the agenda during their stay. For a city already buzzing with World Cup mania, the added presence of a major superhero film crew has only added to the festive atmosphere.

‘Supergirl’ marks a major moment for Alcock, who is stepping into a role with significant legacy attached to it. She becomes only the second actress in cinematic history to headline a Supergirl feature film, following Helen Slater’s portrayal back in 1984. The character previously appeared on the big screen via Sasha Calle in 2023’s ‘The Flash.’

The film itself carries plenty of weight as the second entry in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe, following last year’s ‘Superman.’ The story follows Kara, a young woman haunted by her own past who is anything but a model superhero, until a major threat and an unexpected ally pull her into the center of an intergalactic adventure that forces her to confront her role as Supergirl.

Alcock has been candid about the pressure that comes with carrying a film of this scale. She told Vanity Fair that she is bracing for backlash ahead of the film’s premiere, noting that women in beloved franchises often face scrutiny simply for existing in that space. She added that her experience on ‘House of the Dragon’ helped prepare her for that kind of spotlight, though she admitted the pressure still weighs on her.

With the World Cup providing an unexpected backdrop and the Rio premiere generating fresh buzz, the ‘Supergirl’ promotional tour shows no signs of slowing down as release day approaches. Brazilian audiences will get to see the film in theaters starting June 25, 2026, distributed by Warner Bros Pictures and available in IMAX as well as accessible formats.

Between the World Cup excitement, the star studded red carpet, and the growing anticipation for the film itself, this stop in Brazil has given fans plenty to talk about ahead of release. What do you think of Milly Alcock’s Rio premiere look, share your thoughts in the comments.
