Milly Alcock is currently in the spotlight while promoting the upcoming DC movie Supergirl during the 2026 World Cup events. She recently appeared in public wearing a Brazil football jersey, which quickly drew attention from fans and media covering the tournament and entertainment world.

The film Supergirl is part of the new DC Universe film lineup. It is an American superhero movie based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El. The movie is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira. It is also the second film in the new DC Universe series being developed by DC Studios under James Gunn and Peter Safran.

According to production and studio information shared publicly by DC Studios, Milly Alcock plays the main role of Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl. The cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa. The story follows Supergirl on a journey across space that turns into a violent mission of revenge after she experiences a tragic event.

The film’s premise focuses on a darker version of Supergirl compared to earlier portrayals. Kara Zor-El is shown as someone who survived the destruction of Krypton and grew up with a more painful and harsh view of the universe. In the story, she travels across different planets with her dog Krypto before getting involved in a revenge-driven mission connected to a young girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll.

At one point in the story description, it is explained that Supergirl’s personality is more rough and unpredictable than Superman’s. As producer James Gunn described the character, she is a “pixie-ish, but very attitudinal character.” He also explained that she is written more as an antihero rather than a traditional superhero.

The character of Supergirl has gone through several development changes in recent years. A version of the film was first planned in 2018 under the previous DC Extended Universe. Later, the project was reworked when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over leadership of DC Studios in 2022. The current version of the movie is based on the comic storyline Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

Casting for Milly Alcock was announced in early 2024, and she first appeared in the DC Universe through the 2025 film Superman, played by David Corenswet. Filming for Supergirl took place between January and May 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, as well as locations in London and Scotland.

The supporting cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, who leads a group of space criminals. Eve Ridley plays Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young girl who pushes Supergirl into her revenge mission. Jason Momoa appears as Lobo, a bounty hunter character from DC Comics, marking a major addition to the film’s cast.

Other characters include David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Supergirl’s parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze. Superman, played by David Corenswet, also appears in the story, connecting the film directly to the wider DC Universe.

Supergirl is planned to premiere in Brooklyn on June 22, before its wide release in the United States on June 26. It is part of the first chapter of the new DC Universe titled Gods and Monsters.
