New Supergirl Milly Alcock Reveals Her Favorite On-Screen Batman
With ‘Supergirl’ just around the corner, Milly Alcock is doing press rounds and proving she has very strong opinions about the superhero genre she is about to join. The Australian actress sat down with rapper Kid Cudi on his podcast ‘Big Bro with Kid Cudi’ and agreed to a rapid-fire game ranking her favorite actors to play iconic comic book characters across both DC and Marvel. The answers ranged from diplomatic to completely instinctive, and they have since ignited plenty of conversation online.
When the Batman question came up, Alcock did not hesitate. Her pick was Christian Bale, and her reasoning was as concise as it was definitive. “He’s Christian Bale,” she said, a response that seemed to satisfy Kid Cudi completely, who agreed without pushback. It is the kind of answer that lands somewhere between genuine admiration and unarguable logic, and fans on social media have largely been nodding along.
Alcock is far from alone in that opinion. A fan poll conducted once found Bale capturing over 40 percent of the vote among Batman actors, placing him convincingly ahead of Michael Keaton, Adam West, and Ben Affleck. Bale portrayed the character across Christopher Nolan’s celebrated trilogy, beginning with ‘Batman Begins’ in 2005, through ‘The Dark Knight’ in 2008, and closing with ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ in 2012.
The Batman pick was just one entry in a longer list of strong opinions from Alcock. Her full rankings also included Heath Ledger as her favorite Joker, Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and Andrew Garfield as her pick for best Spider-Man, a choice that caught more than a few fans off guard and sent ripples across social media given how high-profile her own superhero debut is shaping up to be.
Her Superman answer, predictably, landed on her ‘Superman’ co-star David Corenswet. Alcock joked that she had little choice, saying she would probably be “out of a job” otherwise, before pivoting to genuine praise, describing the moment she first met him as immediately thinking, “Oh, you’re the guy.”
Alcock’s casting as Kara Zor-El came after an audition that reportedly moved the room to tears. DC Studios co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran were present, with Safran later recalling that everyone in the room looked at each other and agreed she was exactly what they wanted. ‘Supergirl’ is set to release exclusively in theaters on June 26.
Alcock acknowledged her press tour has not been without turbulence, noting in a separate interview with Variety that the experience made her aware of how “simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on.” Still, moments like the ‘Big Bro’ appearance offer a lighter, more relaxed side of the star ahead of what could be one of the defining superhero debuts of the year.
