‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Prequel in the Works, Sources Claim – Here’s What We Know
Apple TV is reportedly developing a prequel series to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, sources told Nexus Point News. The new show will focus on a younger Lee Shaw, played by Wyatt Russell, and is set during the Cold War, exploring tensions between the United States and Russia in a world filled with monsters.
Joby Harold, known for his work on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Army of the Dead, will serve as showrunner. Harold and his wife, Tory Tunnell, will executive produce through their company Safehouse Pictures.
Wyatt Russell will also take on an executive producer role, according to NPN, Harold and Tunnell were previously executive producers on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which was created by Chris Black and Matt Fraction.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, produced by Legendary Television, is part of the Monsterverse franchise and draws inspiration from Godzilla by Toho Co., Ltd. The series follows members of the Monarch organization over fifty years as they encounter Godzilla and other Titans. The original series stars Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski, with Wyatt Russell and Kurt Russell sharing the role of Lee Shaw.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters premiered on Apple TV+ on November 17, 2023, and received positive reviews. It was renewed for a second season in April 2024, which is set to premiere on February 27, 2026.
This prequel promises to expand the Monsterverse, showing a younger generation of characters navigating a dangerous, monster-filled world during a tense historical period.
