DC fans have a lot to look forward to as new details about My Adventures with Green Lantern have finally been revealed.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming animated series will focus on Jessica Cruz, one of the most popular Green Lantern characters from DC Comics, and it sounds like her journey will be very different from what fans have seen before.

The official plot description introduces Jessica as a regular teenager whose life changes completely after a mysterious Power Ring falls from the sky and chooses her as its new champion. While becoming a Green Lantern is already a huge challenge, things quickly become even more dangerous.

The synopsis states, “Things get even worse when more debris from the Lanterns’ ancient space war arrives — along with their alien foes. To protect the Earth, Jess will have to overcome her fears, anxieties, and your typical teenage drama to lead a new Lantern Corps. against a terrifying foe.”

Before leading her own series, Jessica will first appear in My Adventures with Superman Season 3. Entertainment Weekly recently confirmed that actress Auliʻi Cravalho, best known for voicing Moana, will bring the character to life. Her first appearance is set for the second episode of the new season.

Although Jessica Cruz is known in DC Comics as the first human woman to officially join the Green Lantern Corps, the animated series introduces her in a much simpler way. She begins as an ordinary high school student trying to find her place in the world before being thrown into an adventure far bigger than herself.

Jake Wyatt, who serves as showrunner on both My Adventures with Superman and My Adventures with Green Lantern, explained to Entertainment Weekly why Jessica was chosen for the story.

He said, “We’d already planned for the second episode to showcase how Supergirl, in particular, was changing their world. We wanted to look at how different people had very different reactions to the same Kryptonian.”

Wyatt also revealed that once the Green Lantern series was approved, the creative team saw Jessica as the perfect character to explore how everyday people view superheroes.

He explained, “How would a shy, relatively powerless teenager see this powerful, young super-woman out there changing the world? And what would it be like for Supergirl to see herself through Jess’s eyes?”

The showrunner also shared why Auliʻi Cravalho was selected for the role. According to Wyatt, her audition immediately stood out from the rest.

“Casting brought us a lot of fantastic reads for Jessica. But when I heard Auli’i, there was this complexity of emotion to her read — a natural, almost oblivious charm that she brought to Jess — and I knew she was the one,” he said.

The series is currently in pre-production, but work is already moving forward. Wyatt previously told Entertainment Weekly that the first episode had been sent overseas for animation, though fans may still need to wait a little longer before the full series arrives.

For now, viewers can get their first look at Jessica Cruz when she appears in My Adventures with Superman. Her debut episode, titled Mobile Suit Toyman, premieres on Adult Swim’s Toonami block on June 20.

With a young hero at the center of an intergalactic conflict and a story focused on courage, fear, and personal growth, My Adventures with Green Lantern is shaping up to be one of DC’s most exciting upcoming animated projects.
