NBC Renews Hit Sports Mockumentary Sitcom With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score for Season 2
NBC has confirmed the return of one of its newer comedy hits, continuing a strong early run that has quickly made the show stand out in the network’s lineup. The renewal arrives after a first season that gained solid ratings, strong reviews, and steady audience growth across its weekly release.
According to NBC and details shared by the production team, the The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins series follows a former sports star trying to rebuild his public image after a major fall from grace.
The story centers on his attempt to reconnect with his past, fix broken relationships, and regain the respect he once had. Helping him along the way is a filmmaker character who documents his journey, adding a mix of personal reflection and satire to the story.
The lead role is played by Tracy Morgan, with Daniel Radcliffe co-starring as the documentary filmmaker who becomes involved in the athlete’s rehabilitation process. The cast also includes Erika Alexander, Bobby Moynihan, Precious Way, and Jalyn Hall, forming a mix of comedy veterans and younger talent.
NBC launched the series in January, debuting it after a major NFL playoff broadcast. That strategy helped it reach a wide audience right away, with early reports saying the premiere pulled in more than 14 million viewers. Episodes continued to air weekly through the spring, ending its first season in April.
The show has performed especially well with younger viewers, ranking as one of the strongest new comedies of the 2025–2026 broadcast season among adults aged 18 to 49. It also gained critical praise, including a rare perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes based on early reviews.
Critics highlighted the return of Tracy Morgan in a leading comedy role, with Variety critic Alison Herman noting that he brings a strong presence to the character and comparing the performance to some of his earlier work in television comedy.
Behind the scenes, the series was created by Robert Carlock and Sam Means, both of whom have worked closely with Tina Fey on previous projects. Fey also serves as an executive producer, along with Morgan, Eric Gurian, David Miner, and others. The show is produced through Universal Television in collaboration with several production companies.
The renewal was announced ahead of NBCUniversal’s upcoming upfront presentation, where the network is expected to outline its full programming strategy for the next season. Alongside this comedy, NBC has also renewed several major dramas and long-running franchises, showing a continued focus on established audience favorites and steady performers.
With a second season now officially moving forward, the show is expected to continue building on its early momentum, expanding its story and further exploring the main character’s attempts to rebuild his life and reputation.
