Netflix Is Giving Fans a New Look at GTA 6, and the Timing Has Everyone Talking
Netflix and Rockstar Games are joining forces for what could become one of the biggest gaming promotions the streaming platform has ever hosted. The two companies are giving fans a new way to experience the hype around Grand Theft Auto VI with an exclusive extended preview coming to Netflix later this year.
The presentation, titled “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look,” will arrive on Netflix on August 27, 2026. The event will give fans a deeper look at Rockstar’s upcoming open-world game, which has become one of the most anticipated entertainment releases in years.
According to Netflix, the extended look will be available globally for subscribers at 3 p.m. ET and 12 p.m. PT on August 27. Fans who do not have Netflix will still be able to watch the presentation later through Rockstar Games’ official YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 p.m. ET on the same day.
The announcement marks a major step in the growing relationship between Netflix and Rockstar. While the companies working together on GTA VI may come as a surprise to some fans, they have already built a connection through Netflix’s gaming division.
Rockstar previously brought Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to Netflix Games, where the collection became one of the service’s most downloaded titles. The partnership later expanded with the addition of Red Dead Redemption, another major Rockstar franchise. Landing an exclusive first look at GTA VI represents a much bigger collaboration between the two companies.
Netflix’s involvement also comes at an interesting time for the Grand Theft Auto franchise. The previous entry, Grand Theft Auto V, launched in 2013, the same year Netflix began making a major push into original programming. More than a decade later, both companies have become major forces in their respective industries, making the crossover feel like a meeting between two global entertainment giants.
Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s Vice President of Nonfiction Series, said the partnership shows the company’s goal of becoming a destination for major entertainment moments across different formats. He explained, “Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first.”
Riegg added that the collaboration represents Netflix’s larger ambition to bring major stories from different forms of entertainment to a worldwide audience.
The extended preview arrives only a few months before Grand Theft Auto VI officially launches. Rockstar has confirmed that the game will release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
GTA VI has already generated enormous attention since its first trailer was released, with fans analyzing every detail about the game’s world, characters, and features. The upcoming title will return players to the fictional state of Leonida and include the long-awaited return to Vice City, with the story following protagonists Lucia and Jason.
With Netflix and Rockstar now teaming up to showcase the game, anticipation is expected to reach even higher levels as the release date gets closer. For millions of fans waiting for the next chapter in the legendary franchise, August 27 could become another major moment in GTA history.
