Netflix has had a knack for turning quick, quirky renewals into genuine word-of-mouth hits, and few shows demonstrate that pattern quite as clearly as one particular animated horror comedy. What started as a modest new release ended up becoming one of the platform’s fastest renewal decisions in recent memory.

That show is ‘Haunted Hotel,’ the adult animated series created by Matt Roller, a writer known for his work on ‘Rick and Morty’ and ‘Community.’ The series follows the Freeling family as they struggle to keep the Undervale, a hotel that happens to be thoroughly haunted, running with help from an unlikely source: a deceased family member who’s become one of its resident ghosts.

That renewal has now paid off, with Netflix confirming that ‘Haunted Hotel’ Season 2 officially returns on October 9, arriving right in time for the Halloween season. The announcement gives fans a concrete date after months of speculation about when the show’s next chapter would finally land.

‘Haunted Hotel’ first premiered on Netflix on September 19, 2025, with all 10 episodes of its debut season dropping at once. The show made an immediate impact, landing in Netflix’s top 10 English-language series worldwide during its opening weekend, pulling in 1,800,000 views and 7,500,000 hours of viewing in its first three days alone.

That strong debut led Netflix to renew the series for a second season just one week after it premiered, an unusually quick turnaround that signaled real confidence in the show’s potential. With animation production taking considerably longer than live-action, fans had been left waiting more than a year to find out exactly when that second season would actually arrive.

The voice cast returning for Season 2 includes Will Forte, Eliza Coupe, Skyler Gisondo, Natalie Palamides, and Jimmi Simpson, all reprising their roles as members of the Freeling family and the various spirits haunting the Undervale. That consistency in casting should help maintain the tone that made the first season resonate so strongly with audiences.

Behind the scenes, Roller returns as showrunner and executive producer, joined once again by Chris McKenna, Dan Harmon, and Steve Levy, with Erica Hayes continuing as supervising director. Roller previously expressed his excitement about the project in a statement shared through Netflix’s Tudum, saying he was thrilled to keep working with Netflix and the show’s cast and crew to continue telling stories about the dead, the evil, and the overworked hospitality staff running the Undervale Hotel.

Roller’s résumé extends well beyond ‘Rick and Morty,’ including writing credits on ‘Speechless,’ ‘Community,’ ‘Son of Zorn,’ and ‘Archer,’ along with executive producing work on ‘The Goldbergs’ and ‘Krapopolis.’ That blend of animated and live-action comedy experience helped shape ‘Haunted Hotel’s distinct mix of horror atmosphere and workplace-sitcom humor in its first season.

The show is produced by Titmouse, the animation studio behind hits like ‘Big Mouth’ and ‘The Venture Bros,’ giving it a visual style and production pedigree that’s helped it stand out among Netflix’s growing slate of adult animated originals.

With Season 2 arriving just ahead of Halloween, Netflix appears to be leaning into the show’s spooky sensibilities for maximum seasonal impact. Specific plot details for the new episodes remain under wraps, but given how quickly the series earned its renewal, expectations are high for another round of paranormal chaos at the Undervale.

For fans who’ve been waiting over a year to check back into the hotel, the October 9 return date finally gives them a reason to start counting down.
