Netflix’s New Comedy Addition Has Fans Calling It the Funniest Movie in Years
Netflix has added a new comedy that’s getting a lot of attention from viewers. Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain is now available to stream in the UK as of October 11.
The film originally premiered in 2023 on the US streaming service Peacock.
The movie is the first full-length project from the comedy group Please Don’t Destroy, which includes Saturday Night Live cast members Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall. Fans have been quick to react, with many calling it one of the funniest films in recent years.
One viewer said, “It’s well over a decade since a film made me laugh so hard that I cried and couldn’t get a breath in. 10/10 this one made our night.” Another fan shared, “I didn’t know anything about this movie going into it, have never heard of any of the actors/writers (besides Conan), haven’t watched SNL since the 90s, was dead sober while watching, and I found it to be absolutely hysterical. Critics, however, have given the film mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, 42% of 31 reviews were positive, with an average score of 5.6 out of 10. The site wrote, “Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain has its share of funny moments, but they aren’t enough to fill a full-length feature.” Metacritic gave the movie a score of 49 out of 100, indicating “mixed or average” reviews.
Brian Tallerico at RogerEbert.com said the film “has the common problem of sketch artists turned filmmakers in that the runtime feels like a lot for a few jokes,” while Dan Kois from Slate added, “made me laugh so hard I missed a number of jokes.”
Despite the mixed critical response, many viewers are loving the film. Social media is filled with reactions like, “Watched comedy ‘Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain’ over the weekend… what a Rotten Tomatoes divide!!” Fans seem to appreciate the unique humor and energy the group brings to a full-length film.
