New Action Thriller Dominates Netflix – It’s in Top 10 in Over 20 Countries Worldwide
The 2026 Indian Tamil-language action thriller Blast has quickly become a global streaming hit after arriving on the platform.
The film, directed by Subash K. Raj in his debut and produced by AGS Entertainment, was released on Netflix on June 25 following a short theatrical run. It stars Arjun Sarja in the lead role, alongside Abhirami and Preity Mukhundhan, with supporting performances from John Kokken, Vivek Prasanna, Arjun Chidambaram, Dileepan, and Pawan.

After its release, Blast rapidly climbed into Netflix’s global top 10 list and is currently among the most watched films in more than 20 countries. The strong performance has been notable because the film did not initially arrive with major international marketing compared to other global Netflix releases.
The story centers on a family trained in self-defense who live a quiet life until they become caught in a violent conflict with a powerful corporate syndicate. Their peaceful existence is disrupted when a corporate leader named Varun Dayalan, along with his assassin Abraham, begins a destructive plan that puts an entire village at risk.
The plan involves drilling into a mountain to extract a rare material, even though it would destroy nearby land and threaten lives. This forces the family, who are skilled in martial arts, to stand in opposition to the syndicate and fight back against overwhelming force.
The film was shot between August 2025 and February 2026 and was originally known under the working title AGS28. The official title, Blast, was revealed after production wrapped. It was released in cinemas on May 28, 2026, before later being added to Netflix.
Critical response to the film has been mixed. According to India Today, the film has “promising ideas”, but its “predictable screenplay and long runtime keep it from reaching its full potential.” The Times of India noted that performances, including that of the younger cast, were strong, but pointed out that some action sequences felt repetitive.
The Sunday Guardian gave a more critical view, stating, “Despite strong performances, especially Preity Mukundhan, the film suffers from uneven pacing, weak villains, and a predictable, overlong screenplay.”
Meanwhile, The Hindu focused more positively on the cast performance, especially Preity Mukundhan, writing, “Blast is a Preity Mukundhan show all along, and the Star-actor knows how to pack a punch, alright!”
Despite mixed reviews, audience interest on Netflix has been strong enough to push the film into trending status across multiple regions. Its performance highlights how international titles can gain momentum quickly on streaming platforms, even without unanimous critical praise.
With its combination of martial arts action, family conflict, and corporate corruption themes, Blast has managed to find a wide global audience. According to Netflix’s performance data cited in the report, its continued presence in the top rankings suggests sustained viewer engagement beyond its initial release window.
