New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ LEGO Quinjet Leak Adds Doctor Doom, Captain America, and Two Surprising Faces to the Roster
The road to ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has turned into one long scavenger hunt for fans, with toy leaks doing far more heavy lifting than official marketing at this point. Between blurry box photos and minifigure torsos surfacing online, LEGO has quietly become one of the most reliable sources of information about a film Marvel Studios has kept remarkably tight-lipped about.
Much of that secrecy has centered on Robert Downey Jr’s take on Doctor Doom, whose design has been pieced together almost entirely through toy leaks rather than studio reveals. Despite the film already having four short teaser trailers, the character has barely appeared on screen, leaving brick-built minifigures to do the talking that Marvel’s own marketing has avoided.
Now a new leak claims an Avengers Quinjet LEGO set tied to the film is coming soon, and it reportedly includes minifigures for Doctor Doom, Captain America, a shirtless version of The Thing, and Cyclops. That lineup adds two new names to a set that had already been generating buzz under a different working title in earlier reports.
Previous leaks from LEGO insiders had already pointed to a Quinjet set featuring Doctor Doom alongside a Captain America minifigure, with some reports specifically describing that figure as a HYDRA variant of Steve Rogers. That detail sparked plenty of speculation about a villainous team calling itself the Dark Avengers, possibly led by a corrupted version of the character built around the comics’ Secret Empire storyline.
The addition of The Thing and Cyclops to this latest reported lineup broadens the scope considerably. Pairing a Fantastic Four member with an X-Men character alongside Doctor Doom and Captain America fits the crossover heavy nature of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which is expected to bring together heroes from multiple corners of the franchise to face down a single, unprecedented threat.
It is worth noting that some of the earlier reporting around this same Quinjet set cautioned that details could have been lost in translation, raising the possibility that the Captain America figure could instead belong to Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent as part of the more straightforward New Avengers lineup rather than a HYDRA variant. Even the insiders behind these leaks have acknowledged that LEGO sets do not always line up perfectly with what ends up on screen.
Still, the sourcing behind these reports has built a reasonably solid track record so far, and this latest wave of merchandise leaks continues to paint a picture of a film with an enormous, genre-spanning cast of heroes and villains. Combined with previously leaked sets built around a Sentinel battle and an X-Mansion showdown, the toy aisle has slowly assembled what looks like a rough sketch of the film’s major set pieces well before Marvel is ready to confirm any of it.
Which rumored Avengers: Doomsday LEGO Quinjet character are you most excited to see?
With San Diego Comic-Con approaching and Marvel Studios expected to finally pull back the curtain on the film, fans may not have to rely on toy leaks for much longer. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18.
