New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Poster From Comic-Con Málaga Has Fans More Hyped Than Ever for a Scarlet Witch Return
Marvel has turned the ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ campaign into a guessing game, and talk of a Scarlet Witch return keeps growing with each reveal. At this past July’s San Diego Comic-Con, the studio displayed costumes for three mysterious Latverian Witches in green, yellow and purple. Nobody knows who is wearing them.
The theory that one of them is Wanda Maximoff has a natural starting point. Elizabeth Olsen’s character was last seen in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ seemingly sacrificing herself to destroy the Darkhold, so her fate has stayed ambiguous.
The complication is that Olsen has repeatedly said she is not appearing in ‘Doomsday’ and doesn’t know when Wanda will return to the MCU. That hasn’t stopped the rumor mill, and Marvel has made sure to keep it spinning.
The latest spark came from Comic-Con Málaga. Marvel Studios shared a new poster with a caption that begins “Straight from Comic-Con Málaga” in its post on X, followed by the line that has everyone talking: “Witching season has arrived.” ComicBook.com highlighted that tagline, noting it has fans more hyped about a Scarlet Witch return than ever.

The artwork, shared in HD by outlets and fans, shows Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) in his throne room with three masked Latverian Witches behind him. It’s a variation on a previous poster, and the “12.18.26 IS DOOMSDAY” tagline still runs across the bottom beside the Marvel Studios logo.
The biggest detail may be the costumes. At the San Diego showing, the three witches wore green, yellow and purple, but on this poster the witch at the back is now wearing red. Fans quickly noticed, and some see it as the closest thing yet to a hint that the Scarlet Witch has fallen under Doom’s spell.
Color-based theories have taken off from there. Fans are speculating the witches could be Clea in purple, Wanda in red and Sylvie in green, matching the colors of their magic. Wanda and Clea were last seen in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ while Sylvie appeared in both seasons of ‘Loki.’
None of this is confirmed. The identities beneath the masks remain hidden, and ComicBook.com points out that it’s already established ‘Doomsday’ includes witches, so the tagline could have nothing to do with Wanda. Other theories include Clea, the Ancient One or Mordo, and one leak suggests a witch could be a shape-shifter posing as Peggy Carter.
Still, the buzz isn’t coming from nowhere. A rumor from insider MyTimeToShineHello claims Olsen will reprise Wanda, and her movement coach and stunt double Jennifer White posted a cryptic Instagram story that fueled speculation. There are also reports of reshoots to add more cameos, though that remains unconfirmed.
There is a comics angle too. One outlet notes that if Wanda is back, the Russos could adapt elements of ‘The Children’s Crusade,’ in which she is tied up in a story involving Doctor Doom. Another rumor says Doom could control her, which would flip her encounter with Tony Stark in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’

The poster arrived during Comic-Con Málaga, which ran from Oct. 1 to Oct. 4 in Spain. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens in theaters on Dec. 18, and tickets are already on sale.
Marvel has shown it knows how to play this game. Fans reading too much into a four-word tagline may be right or wrong, and a coven of masked witches is exactly the kind of misdirection the studio is known for. Either way, the campaign has people talking about Wanda again.
Do you think the red-clad witch in the new Avengers: Doomsday poster is Scarlet Witch?
