New Claim Says Dafne Keen’s Laura Will Return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Few characters have a more devoted following than the young mutant who first slashed her way onto screens in ‘Logan.’ Fans have spent years asking where Laura Kinney, also known as X-23, might turn up next. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ bringing together heroes from multiple universes, the question has only grown louder.
Dafne Keen first played the character in the 2017 film and later reprised the role in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ where she helped Deadpool and a Wolverine variant defeat Cassandra Nova. That film ended with Deadpool, Wolverine and Laura together in Wade Wilson’s apartment, which left many viewers expecting more. Marvel has kept quiet ever since.
Now a new claim is circulating that Keen will return as Laura in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ in a cameo appearance. It’s an exciting idea, but it is important to be clear about one thing: no source has confirmed it, and Marvel Studios has not announced her involvement.

The report has not been backed up by an official announcement or by a major trade outlet. It follows months of similar rumors from entertainment insiders. Earlier this year, one insider said Keen was in talks to return as Laura, adding that her comeback might not be tied to the upcoming X-Men reboot. Another claimed she would be back for the Avengers films.
Outlets that covered those rumors stressed that none were confirmed. As recently as August, coverage noted that Marvel had not confirmed her involvement in either the Avengers movies or the X-Men reboot. Fans should treat the latest claim with the same caution
Keen herself has been open about wanting to return. At Fan Expo Canada, she said she had no idea whether she would be in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ but that she hoped so. She has also said she would happily sign on even for a tiny cameo, and that she would play the character for the rest of her life.
Marvel movies are famously secretive, and Keen has admitted to hiding her involvement in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ before it was revealed. That history leaves room for interpretation, but her comments so far show enthusiasm rather than confirmation.
Narratively, the case is easy to make. The end of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ linked Laura with Deadpool and Wolverine, and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool is expected to appear in the film. If the story continues from that point, having Laura nearby would feel natural.
The format also fits a short appearance. With a huge ensemble, a cameo would let Marvel include a fan favorite without needing to build a full storyline around her.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ already features a large roster. Marvel has confirmed 31 cast members, including Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards. The film brings together three universes, including the main MCU, the Fantastic Four’s world and the world of the original X-Men movies.
On the mutant side, Ian McKellen returns as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique and Kelsey Grammer as Beast. Channing Tatum’s Gambit is also part of the film. Kevin Feige has said the cast list is not final, and production has been highly secretive, so surprises are possible.

For now, the facts are limited. Marvel has not confirmed Keen’s role, and the new claim has not been backed by an official source. The studio has also not said whether a cameo or a larger part is planned.
The film arrives in theaters on December 18, and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ follows on December 17, 2027. The new X-Men are not expected to debut until ‘Secret Wars’ or their solo film. That timeline could leave Laura’s future open either way.
Whether the claim turns out to be true, it shows how much affection fans have for the character. If Laura does appear, it would be a small but meaningful payoff for a story that began in ‘Logan.’ Until Marvel says otherwise, though, it remains a rumor.
