Denis Villeneuve has spent years building toward the end of his ‘Dune‘ saga. The first film introduced Arrakis and the Atreides family, and ‘Dune: Part Two’ won 2 Oscars out of 5 nominations and grossed more than $714 million worldwide.

Now the story is heading toward its conclusion, and Warner Bros. is releasing new images at a steady pace. Every fresh still has become an event for fans, who are watching closely to see how Paul and Chani look after the time jump.

Two new images from ‘Dune: Part Three’ have now surfaced. One shows Zendaya as Chani in a dark, textured suit, standing in front of a glowing amber curtain. The other shows Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides, bald and wrapped in a dark robe, standing between towering structures in a Fandango exclusive from its holiday movie preview.

Both images carry a tense, quiet mood. Chani stands with one gloved hand extended and a guarded expression, while Paul keeps his head turned away, a stark contrast with the dusty battle shots released earlier.

The film adapts Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel ‘Dune Messiah’ and picks up 17 years after the events of ‘Dune: Part Two’. Paul now rules as Emperor while waging a holy war, and he is torn between his political marriage to Irulan and his enduring bond with Chani.

In ‘Dune: Part Two’, Paul defeated the Harkonnens and launched a holy war against the Great Houses with his Fremen army. That tension grows from the end of the last film, when Chani rejected Paul’s decision to marry Princess Irulan as a political move. In the final trailer, Paul says that after years of combat he has become the oppressor Chani swore to fight.

In October, Empire revealed an exclusive image of Zendaya crouched in the desert sand in a dust-streaked stillsuit. The magazine’s cover story discusses the personal betrayal Chani is wrestling with, and one cover shows Chani on the warpath with Paul looming behind her.

Zendaya has said that changing out of the stillsuit took at least 10 minutes, and that she wished it came with a cooling system. Villeneuve has also said the story of Paul and Chani’s relationship makes the film very personal, and he described it as more action-packed and tense than its predecessors.

Chalamet and Zendaya lead the film again, joined by Florence Pugh as Irulan, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica and Javier Bardem as Stilgar. Anya Taylor-Joy plays Alia Atreides, stepping up from her brief appearance in ‘Dune: Part Two’, while Charlotte Rampling and Isaach de Bankolé also appear.

Robert Pattinson joins the saga as Scytale, the shape-shifting antagonist plotting against Paul, and Jason Momoa returns as Hayt, a resurrected version of Duncan Idaho. Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke play Leto II and Ghanima, Paul and Chani’s twins.

‘Dune: Part Three’ arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, and tickets are already on sale, including IMAX 70mm showings, with showings starting as early as December 15. Hans Zimmer is composing the score, and production began in Budapest in July 2025. Villeneuve has said the film will be his last ‘Dune’ movie.

The final trailer arrived on October 27, showing Paul gearing up for war while other forces try to stop him. Fans can also get an early taste before the premiere. IMAX is bringing both earlier films back as a double feature on November 13, followed by individual screenings from November 14 through November 18, and every screening will include exclusive footage from ‘Dune: Part Three’.

The film opens on the same day as Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, a clash fans have nicknamed ‘Dunesday’. IMAX has reportedly locked ‘Dune: Part Three’ into an exclusive three-week run through the holiday period, which would leave the Marvel film without IMAX screens. The release in December also means ‘Dune: Part Three’ will be eligible for the 2027 Oscars, where its predecessor won 2 awards.
