The first posters for The Social Reckoning have been revealed, giving fans their first official look at the upcoming sequel to The Social Network. The new film features Jeremy Strong, Jeremy Allen White, and Mikey Madison in the lead roles and is set to bring a new chapter to the story of Facebook and the people behind its biggest controversies.

According to information released by Sony Pictures and production details shared through industry reports, The Social Reckoning is a standalone sequel to the 2010 film The Social Network. Aaron Sorkin returns as the writer and also directs the movie this time. He also serves as one of the producers.

Instead of revisiting the early days of Facebook, the new film focuses on the company’s later years. The story is inspired by the 2021 Facebook leak involving whistleblower Frances Haugen and reporting by Wall Street Journal journalist Jeff Horwitz. Their work exposed internal documents that raised questions about how the social media platform handled safety, misinformation, and its impact on users.

Mikey Madison plays Frances Haugen, while Jeremy Allen White takes on the role of Jeff Horwitz. Jeremy Strong plays Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, replacing Jesse Eisenberg, who played the character in the original film.

The cast also includes Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, Bill Burr, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Anna Lambe, Aidan Laprete, Kelley Pereira, Nelson Franklin, Portia Doubleday, Patrick Fischler, Joey Brooks, Sierra Capri, and Tehmina Sunny.

The sequel has been in discussion for several years. Back in 2019, Aaron Sorkin revealed that producer Scott Rudin had suggested making another film because, as Sorkin explained, “A lot of very interesting, dramatic stuff has happened since the movie ends.” He also said there was enough material to continue the story.

Jesse Eisenberg had previously said he would be interested in returning if Sorkin wrote another script, saying, “Sorkin is a genius, and if he chooses to write about something, I’ll obviously be interested.” However, he ultimately decided not to return for the sequel.

According to reports, Sorkin later explained why Eisenberg stepped away from the project. He said, “I felt like it belonged to him, and he was certainly battle-tested but he simply did not want to be conflated with Mark Zuckerberg anymore… he has his problems with the guy.”

Jeremy Strong approached the role in his own way instead of trying to copy Eisenberg’s performance. According to production reports, Strong developed his version of Zuckerberg independently.

The project was officially announced in June 2025 under the title The Social Network Part II. A few months later, in September 2025, the title was changed to The Social Reckoning.

Filming began in Vancouver, Canada, on October 22, 2025, under the working title Goliath. Production wrapped on December 9, 2025. Jeff Cronenweth served as the film’s cinematographer.

The movie also features a new composer. Alexandre Desplat is writing the score, replacing Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who created the music for the original film. According to production information, this is also the first movie directed by Aaron Sorkin that is not scored by Daniel Pemberton.

The Social Reckoning is scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on October 9, 2026, through Sony Pictures Releasing under the Columbia Pictures label. With its first official posters now released, fans have finally gotten a preview of the highly anticipated sequel that brings one of modern technology’s biggest stories back to the big screen.
