New Look at Uma Thurman in Netflix’s ‘The Old Guard 2’ Has Fans Thinking of ‘Kill Bill’

Netflix has just released a brand-new poster for The Old Guard 2, and fans are really excited, especially because Uma Thurman’s look in the poster gives off strong Kill Bill vibes. It’s clear this sequel is going big, with Charlize Theron returning as Andy alongside Thurman. The poster has already got people talking about how stylish and intense this next chapter is going to be.

The Old Guard 2 follows up the 2020 film, which is based on Greg Rucka’s comic book series. This time, the movie is directed by Victoria Mahoney. Along with Charlize Theron, many cast members from the first movie return, including KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, Vân Veronica Ngô, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. New to the cast are Uma Thurman, playing a character named Discord, and Henry Golding as Tuah.

The story continues with Andy trying to live a normal life after losing her immortality. But when one of the very first immortals rises up and threatens the world, Andy and her team have no choice but to come out of hiding and fight again.

Back in July 2020, Greg Rucka made a joke about a sequel, saying, “In case of sequel, break glass. It’s very straightforward. You want another one? Here’s a way to get into it.” Charlize Theron also shared her thoughts around that time, saying, “Let’s have a little resting period, but just given the fact that all of us really want to do it, I’m sure when it’s the right time, we’ll start the conversation.” Those conversations soon turned into action, and by January 2021, Netflix officially approved the sequel.

Victoria Mahoney was announced as the new director in August 2021, taking over from Gina Prince-Bythewood, who directed the first film. The original cast was confirmed to come back, and by June 2022, Netflix revealed that Uma Thurman and Henry Golding had joined the cast in mystery roles. Greg Rucka wrote the script again, and Charlize Theron is one of the producers.

Filming began in June 2022 in Italy, including at the famous Cinecittà Studios. Production faced a small setback in August when the set caught fire during teardown, but the team kept moving forward. They also filmed some scenes in the UK, wrapping up shooting in September 2022.

In July 2024, Charlize Theron told fans that post-production was paused for a while due to changes at Netflix, but the work has since been completed. She promised the movie would be released “soon.” Additional scenes were shot in October 2024, according to the Union of British Columbia Performers.

The music for the sequel is composed by Ruth Barrett and Steffen Thum, who replaced the original film’s composers.

The Old Guard 2 is set to arrive on Netflix on July 2, 2025. Until then, fans can enjoy the new poster and look forward to what promises to be a stylish and thrilling follow-up.
