New M3GAN 2.0 Footage Shows Intense Showdown With Rogue Military AI Robot

The killer AI doll M3GAN is back in a brand-new sequel, and this time, she’s not the one causing chaos. In M3GAN 2.0, the doll returns with a mission: to stop a dangerous military robot that’s using her own stolen technology. Universal Pictures has announced that the movie will hit theaters on June 27, 2025.

The story takes place two years after the events of the first film. Gemma, played by Allison Williams, has become a public voice warning people about the dangers of artificial intelligence. She’s also secretly kept M3GAN running, though in a safe and powerless form. But when a defense contractor creates a robot named AMELIA using M3GAN’s tech, and it goes rogue, Gemma is forced to bring M3GAN back online.

AMELIA, short for Autonomous Military Engagement Logistics and Infiltration Android, is a high-level combat robot. She becomes self-aware and turns against the people who made her, putting the world at risk. To fight her, Gemma and her niece Cady decide to upgrade M3GAN so she can take on AMELIA.

Cady, played again by Violet McGraw, has a deep connection with M3GAN from the first film. Joining the cast this time is Ivanna Sakhno as AMELIA, along with new faces like Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp, and Jemaine Clement. Amie Donald returns to perform as M3GAN, with Jenna Davis once again providing the voice.

The sequel is directed by Gerard Johnstone, who also helped write the story. Akela Cooper, who wrote the first movie’s script, returns to write the sequel. Jason Blum and James Wan are back as producers through their production companies Blumhouse and Atomic Monster.

Filming happened in Auckland, New Zealand, between July and September 2024. It lasted just under two months. Chris Bacon is doing the music for the film.

A new scene from the movie, shared by Fandango, shows M3GAN going head-to-head with AMELIA. It’s a tense moment that gives fans a quick taste of the action and drama that the sequel promises.

The movie was originally set to release earlier in the year, first in January and then in May. But Universal has now locked in June 27 as the final date.

M3GAN 2.0 takes a new direction by making M3GAN more of a hero than a threat. That shift could give fans something fresh while keeping the creepy AI vibe that made the original so popular. It also raises the stakes, with M3GAN fighting an even more dangerous machine created from her own code.

I think turning M3GAN into a sort of protector is an interesting twist that could make the sequel feel new without losing what made the first movie work. What do you think about M3GAN’s return and this new villain? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
