New Report Reveals Digital Release Date for ‘Mortal Kombat 2
Action movies based on video games have become a major part of Hollywood’s release cycle, often moving quickly from theaters to digital platforms. Fans now regularly look out for streaming and online release dates as soon as a film finishes its theatrical run.
That is the case again with the latest entry in the Mortal Kombat film series. The sequel continues the story from the 2021 reboot and has already completed its theatrical run, leading to growing interest in when it will become available for home viewing.
According to a post from The Beyond Reporter on social media, the film Mortal Kombat II is expected to arrive on digital platforms on June 9. The information has not yet been officially confirmed by the studio, but it has already started circulating among fans online.
The sequel is part of the long-running Mortal Kombat film series and continues the story that began with the 2021 reboot. The franchise is based on the popular fighting game series created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, which has been adapted into multiple films over the years.
The movie is directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater. It brings back several returning cast members while also adding new characters to the story. The film continues to build on the expanded universe of Earthrealm warriors and their battle against Outworld.
The story of Mortal Kombat II follows Johnny Cage, a martial arts movie star who is pulled into the fight between worlds. He is recruited by Raiden and Sonya Blade to join the defenders of Earthrealm in an interdimensional tournament. Their mission is to stop the forces of the Outworld and the powerful emperor Shao Kahn.
The cast includes returning actors such as Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Max Huang, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Damon Herriman also returns in a different role. New cast members include Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Martyn Ford, and Tati Gabrielle, who join the expanding storyline.
The movie had its theatrical premiere on April 27 at the TCL Chinese Theatre. It was then released in theaters in the United States on May 8. Since its release, it has earned around 112 million dollars worldwide on an estimated budget of 80 million dollars.

Reception has been mixed, with some fans praising the action and others giving more critical reviews. Despite that, development is already underway for a third film, showing that the studio is continuing to invest in the franchise.
For now, the rumored digital release date of June 9 has not been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. or the production team. Still, the report from The Beyond Reporter has gained attention as fans wait for the next step in the film’s rollout and home viewing availability.
