New Rumors Claim the Next James Bond Has Already Been Cast

Few casting searches in Hollywood history have generated as much sustained speculation as the hunt for Daniel Craig’s replacement. For years now, every leaked screen test, casting director hire and offhand producer comment has sent the internet into a frenzy of theories about who will next carry the 007 mantle.

That speculation reached a fever pitch again this weekend. A wave of social media posts began circulating claiming the next James Bond has already been quietly cast, with an official public announcement supposedly imminent. The posts, however, offer no named actor and no confirmation from Amazon MGM Studios, the franchise’s current rights holder.

So far, that rumor remains exactly that, a rumor, with no corroborating reports from major trade outlets to back up the claim that casting has already been finalized. What is confirmed is that the search for the next Bond has entered its most active phase yet, with producer Amy Pascal describing it as approaching a decisive final stage.

Pascal, who took over creative control of the franchise alongside David Heyman in 2025 following Amazon MGM’s full buyout of the rights from longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, has said a formal casting announcement is now realistic before the end of the year. “I would say the end of the year is a good bet,” Pascal told Deadline, adding that the production team has been methodical given how difficult an act Craig is to follow.

According to earlier trade reporting, director Denis Villeneuve and the production team notified a shortlist of actors about a final round of screen tests scheduled for August. Casting director Nina Gold, known for her work on “Game of Thrones,” has reportedly also been meeting with a wider pool of actors beyond the initial shortlist, including some lesser-known names, suggesting producers remain open to a less established performer stepping into the role.

That approach would track with Bond history, since several past actors who took on 007 were relatively unknown before landing the part. Amazon MGM confirmed back in May that the formal casting process had begun, while stating it would not comment on individual names as the search continued.

Despite that official silence, no shortage of names has circulated in the meantime. Jack Lowden, best known for playing River Cartwright on Apple TV’s “Slow Horses,” has recently become one of the most talked-about candidates. Author Richard Osman suggested Lowden was being “strongly considered” for the role, a claim widely reported and circulated in mid-August.

Lowden isn’t the only actor whose name has surfaced repeatedly throughout this process. Callum Turner has been floated as a bookies’ favorite at various points, while rumors have also connected actors like Aaron Pierre to the role, though it remains unclear whether any of these candidates have progressed to the franchise’s most advanced audition stages.

The scale of interest in this search reflects just how significant a moment this is for the franchise. Bond 26 will be the first installment developed entirely under Amazon MGM’s creative control, marking a structural shift after decades under Eon Productions’ more traditional, deliberate approach to the series.

Villeneuve is attached to direct, with Steven Knight, creator of “Peaky Blinders,” writing the screenplay, signaling a creative team eager to bring a distinct new voice to the character. The stakes are especially high given how “No Time to Die” ended, with Bond’s on-screen death leaving producers to figure out how to reintroduce the character without simply repeating what came before.

For now, fans hoping for immediate confirmation of a new 007 will have to keep waiting. With auditions reportedly still finishing up and no official word from Amazon MGM, this weekend’s casting rumors remain unverified, but they’re a clear sign of just how much anticipation continues to build as the franchise inches closer to finally naming its next leading man.

Who should be the next James Bond?
