New ‘Supergirl’ TV Spot Gives Lobo the Spotlight
A new TV spot for Supergirl has been released by DC Studios, and fans are already talking about the fresh footage featuring Jason Momoa’s Lobo. The short promo puts a major spotlight on the character and gives viewers another look at the wild energy he is expected to bring to the upcoming DCU movie.
The footage also includes what many fans believe is a clear visual callback to Superman. In one scene, Kara Zor-El kicks an enemy in the face, sending a tooth flying through the air. The shot closely resembles a moment from Superman’s recent movie where the Man of Steel punched one of Lex Luthor’s men high above Metropolis. While it has not been officially confirmed, viewers online quickly pointed out the similarity.
The movie will lean heavily into the cosmic side of the DC Universe. Several alien species briefly appear in the TV spot, and the overall style has reminded many fans of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Even though Gunn did not direct Supergirl, many viewers feel his creative influence can already be seen throughout the project.
One of the biggest reasons for the excitement is Jason Momoa’s role as Lobo. The actor previously played Aquaman in the old DC movie universe, but he has openly said that Lobo has always been his dream comic book character to play. In the comics, Lobo is one of DC’s most violent and unpredictable antiheroes. He first appeared in the 1980s and quickly became popular because of his over-the-top personality, brutal fighting style, and dark humor.
Lobo is an alien bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia. He calls himself “The Main Man” and is known for causing chaos wherever he goes. In the comics, he rides a space motorcycle, takes dangerous jobs across the galaxy, and often clashes with heroes like Superman. What makes him especially dangerous is his healing ability. Even after suffering massive injuries, Lobo can recover almost instantly. He also has super strength, incredible durability, and very little respect for rules or authority.
Over the years, Lobo became a cult favorite among comic readers because he was completely different from traditional superheroes. He drinks heavily, enjoys violence, and usually cares more about money and fun than saving lives. Despite that, fans enjoy him because of his larger-than-life personality and unpredictable behavior. Jason Momoa seems like a natural fit for the role, and the new TV spot gives a better idea of how chaotic this version of Lobo will be.
During an interview with Variety ahead of the film’s press tour, star Milly Alcock spoke about her emotional connection to Kara Zor-El. She said, “I am so excited for all the young women who are going to see this — that’s really going to get me.”
Alcock also explained why the character felt personal to her, saying, “What Kara was going through that I was going through is she’s someone who has been at war with themselves. And I think that’s a very universal feeling — especially for women.”
She later added, “Pain is a universal feeling. I was able to connect with that pretty instantly. And that was the thing that would ground me in her.”
Directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, Supergirl stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El alongside Jason Momoa, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. The movie is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 26.
