A brand-new teaser for Superman just dropped, and it’s already creating a buzz. The clip, which premiered during a segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, gave fans a quick but intense look at how things are shaping up between the Man of Steel and Lex Luthor.

In the scene, Superman storms into Luthor’s office, clearly furious. He causes quite a mess, smashing through the doors and knocking things over. What stands out most, though, is what he demands: a dog. While the teaser doesn’t say much, he’s likely talking about Krypto, Superman’s pet dog, who’s appeared in the film’s earlier promos.

Nicholas Hoult plays Luthor, and his response in the scene is calm and dismissive. He sips coffee and pretends he doesn’t know what Superman is talking about. That short exchange already hints at the kind of tension and mind games we can expect between the two.

Director James Gunn had previously confirmed that Luthor would be the film’s main villain. He actually revealed this more than a year ago, and the teaser now backs that up. Gunn also spoke with Rolling Stone about how he sees Luthor.

“I really understand Lex. I feel like I relate to Lex way more than I wish I did. But for me, Lex looks at Superman like artists look at AI,” Gunn said. He described Luthor as someone who has achieved great things through hard work, only to be outshined by someone who has powers he didn’t earn. “That sort of obsession with being replaced, with your gifts not being seen or passed over — I think is what drives Lex,” he added. “He’s just meaner than I am.”

This view paints Lex not as a typical villain, but as a person with deep frustration and jealousy. He sees Superman as someone who gets all the attention without putting in the effort. That makes Luthor feel real, not just evil for the sake of it.

The movie doesn’t stop with just Superman and Lex. It’s also bringing in other DC heroes like Mister Terrific, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Metamorpho. David Corenswet stars as Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan playing Lois Lane. The cast also includes Milly Alcock as Supergirl and Frank Grillo returning as Rick Flag Sr. Filming wrapped up in July 2024, with most of the scenes shot in Georgia and Norway.

Inspired in part by the comic All-Star Superman by Grant Morrison, this film seems to be aiming for something more emotional and grounded. Instead of focusing only on action, it looks like it’ll explore what makes these characters tick.
