Romantic comedies often mix light humor with simple emotional stories about love, mistakes, and unexpected connections. These films usually focus on everyday situations that turn chaotic in funny and heartfelt ways.

A new example is the upcoming British rom-com Finding Emily, which has just released its official trailer. According to production details from Working Title Films and distributor Focus Features, the movie is set to hit theaters in the United States on August 28.

Finding Emily follows a lovesick musician who accidentally gets the wrong phone number for the girl he believes is his dream match. Instead of giving up, he teams up with a psychology student, and together they begin a search that quickly turns into a messy and funny campus-wide situation.

The film stars Spike Fearn as Owen and Angourie Rice as Sami. The cast also includes Minnie Driver as Dean, Ella Maisy Purvis as Meg, and Yali Topol Margalith as Emily Palmer, along with several other characters who all add to the confusion around the identity of Emily.

The story builds around Owen and Sami working together, even though they have very different personalities and goals. As they dig deeper into the mystery, their search starts to affect their own lives and forces them to think about what they really want.

Finding Emily is directed by Alicia MacDonald and written by Rachel Hirons. It is produced by Working Title Films, with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner producing, along with Olivier Kaempfer for Parkville. Focus Features holds worldwide distribution rights.

Principal photography took place in Manchester between August and September 2024. The film is scheduled to release in the UK on May 22, before arriving in US theaters on August 28, according to official production and release information.
