Nicole Kidman’s Ethereal Chanel Gown Stole the Show at the ‘Practical Magic 2’ London Premiere

Nearly three decades after casting their first spell on audiences, the Owens sisters are officially back, and their London homecoming proved the magic between them never faded. The European premiere of ‘Practical Magic 2‘ brought together the film’s returning stars for their first official red carpet appearance together on the press tour.

Held at London’s Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on August 26, the premiere gave fans a proper look at how far Sally and Gillian Owens have come since the sisters first bewitched moviegoers in 1998. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman walked the dark blue carpet hand in hand, surrounded by tree-stump candle installations and greenery befitting the film’s witchy world.

It was Nicole Kidman’s shimmering custom Chanel gown that truly stopped attendees in their tracks. The actress wore an icy aquamarine sequined dress draped with cascading pearls and chain detailing, slit to the thigh and finished with gold accessories that let the gown’s ethereal design take center stage.

Bullock, meanwhile, took the opposite approach with a decidedly maximalist look, choosing a strapless Givenchy leopard-print jacquard gown with a corseted bodice, an oversized bow drape, and a matching thigh-high slit. She completed the outfit with Jessica McCormack jewels and black strappy heels, layering on gold necklaces for extra shine.

The contrast between the two looks mirrored the characters themselves in an interesting way, with structured strapless bodices and opulent leg slits linking the pair beneath the surface even as their color palettes and prints couldn’t have been more different. It marked a notable moment for Bullock in particular, as this was her first major premiere appearance in several years, arriving months after she spoke publicly for the first time about losing her partner Bryan Randall to ALS in 2023.

Joey King, who joins the sequel’s cast, also turned heads in a sheer cream floral custom Miu Miu gown paired with L’Dezen jewelry as she made her way down the carpet. King is one of several new additions to the franchise, alongside Maisie Williams, who will play the next generation of gifted Owens daughters navigating the family’s magical legacy.

Susanne Bier directs the sequel from a screenplay drawing on Alice Hoffman’s novel ‘The Book of Magic,’ with Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest both returning as the sisters’ eccentric aunts. The film picks up more than two decades after the original, following Sally’s daughters as they grapple with gifts of their own.

Kidman first confirmed her involvement in the project years ago while promoting another project, telling Variety’s Marc Malkin that she and Bullock had been quietly hoping for a sequel since they filmed the original back in 1998. That long-simmering wish is finally paying off as ‘Practical Magic 2’ heads toward its theatrical release the weekend after Labor Day, roughly 28 years after audiences first met the Owens sisters.

Given how much anticipation has built around this reunion, it’s clear fans have been waiting nearly as long as Kidman and Bullock have for this witchy sequel to finally arrive.
