Nintendo Just Confirmed the ‘Ocarina of Time’ Remake’s Release Date With a New Trailer
Video game remakes rarely arrive with the kind of anticipation currently surrounding Nintendo’s rebuild of one of gaming’s most influential titles. ‘The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ has spent nearly three decades as a benchmark for 3D adventure design, and any attempt to rebuild it for a modern audience was always going to carry enormous expectations.
That anticipation only grew louder back in June, when Nintendo first confirmed the remake was coming to Switch 2 during a Direct presentation. At the time, the company offered little more than a brief teaser hinting at visual upgrades, leaving fans with plenty of questions and months of speculation about what the finished product would actually look like.
Those questions finally got answers during Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, where the company revealed an extensive new gameplay trailer alongside a confirmed release date. The Ocarina of Time remake will launch worldwide on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, positioning it as a major holiday release that will land just weeks ahead of GTA 6.
The new trailer gave fans their most detailed look yet at how thoroughly Nintendo has rebuilt the 1998 classic, which currently holds a 99 score on Metacritic and is widely regarded as one of the most influential games ever made. Rather than simply touching up textures, the remake appears to be a full rebuild, adopting a semi-realistic visual style that leans closer to the original’s tone rather than the painterly aesthetics seen in ‘Breath of the Wild’ and ‘Tears of the Kingdom’.
Beyond the visual overhaul, Nintendo also detailed several meaningful gameplay changes designed to modernize the experience without abandoning what made the original so influential. Link can now jump, sprint using a new dash ability, and swim and dive underwater, expanding his movement options well beyond what was possible on the Nintendo 64. The remake also introduces a streamlined item-swapping system, allowing players to switch equipment with a single button rather than navigating clunky menus.
Cutscenes throughout the game will feature fully voiced characters for the first time, adding a layer of presentation the original never had. A new feature called Threads of Time will function as an in-game quest log, helping players track their progress and figure out where to head next, while a dynamic day-and-night cycle will bring Hyrule’s world to life in ways the N64 hardware simply couldn’t support.
One particularly novel addition lets players hum directly into their controller’s microphone, allowing Link to match the tune on his in-game Ocarina rather than relying solely on button inputs. It’s a small touch, but one that speaks to how much attention Nintendo has poured into modernizing even the game’s most iconic mechanics.
Alongside the software reveal, Nintendo also confirmed a limited-edition Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 console featuring franchise iconography to celebrate the milestone anniversary. Pricing was also confirmed during the presentation, with physical copies of the game set to retail for $69.99 and digital versions priced slightly lower at $59.99 through the Nintendo eShop.
With a firm release date, extensive new gameplay footage, and a wave of quality-of-life improvements now confirmed, Nintendo appears determined to make this remake feel like a definitive reintroduction to Hyrule rather than a simple visual refresh. Landing just ahead of one of the most anticipated releases in gaming history only raises the stakes further for how well the Switch 2 version performs commercially.
