‘Of Ash and Steel’ Shows Off Its World in New Overview Trailer

A new trailer for the open world action RPG Of Ash and Steel has just been released, and it gives a closer look at what players can expect when they step into its dangerous and mysterious world. The game is being made by Fire & Frost Studios and will be published by Tinybuild. It’s expected to come out later this year.
The developers are also inviting players to join a playtest. If you’re interested, you can sign up for it on the game’s Steam page.
Of Ash and Steel was first revealed in November last year. The team behind it said they were inspired by classic RPGs from the early 2000s. They specifically mentioned the original Gothic and The Witcher as big influences.
The new trailer introduces players to the island of Grayshaft, a place full of beauty, secrets, and danger. You see everything through the eyes of Tristan, a cartographer who gets caught up in events much bigger than himself. He didn’t set out to be a hero, but that’s what he might have to become.
In the trailer, the world of Grayshaft looks full of variety. There are peaceful fields and villages, but also deep forests and ruins that have been forgotten for ages. There’s even an ancient volcano in the center of the island. But no matter how pretty some parts look, the island is still a dangerous place.
The game’s creators said, “Some folks describe the island as an entity, temperamental and unstable whenever it decides so.” That means the weather can shift without warning. A clear sky can turn into a storm in seconds. And while some places are green and warm, others are stuck in ice all year long.
Players will run into all kinds of threats while exploring. There are wild beasts, scavengers, and strange monsters hiding around every corner. Even the bugs are scary. The team says that if you make one bad move, it could be the end for you. But for those who are curious and brave, there are rewards waiting—hidden places, old treasures, and secrets that haven’t been found in years.
There are also a bunch of different factions fighting for power on the island. The Order of the Seven follows a strict code, while the Free Hunters do whatever they think is right. And then there are other groups that stay hidden in the shadows. “Rule of thumb: assume everything’s out to get you, and you’ll only be surprised when it’s not.”
This trailer is just the start of what the team wants to share. More updates and behind-the-scenes devlogs are coming soon. The game is available to wishlist on Steam.
