Some movies have a short promotional burst, and others seem to keep going for months. ‘The Invite‘ belongs to the second group. Olivia Wilde‘s ‘The Invite’ press appearances have continued well after its release, and her latest look shows she is still fully committed.

Cinethology shared new photos of Wilde on September 28. In them, she wears a gray tailored suit with a buttoned vest, her long hair worn down in loose, lightly highlighted waves. It is a polished, understated style that suits the tone of the film.

The movie premiered at Sundance on January 24, 2026, and arrived in U.S. theaters on June 26 through A24. It has since become one of the year’s surprise success stories. It reportedly earned $57.4 million against a $15 million budget.

Wilde directs and stars as Angela, alongside Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton. Along the way she has appeared at screenings around the world. In September alone, she attended a Los Angeles screening and a 35mm sneak preview at Film at Lincoln Center, and she continued the tour at a Paris premiere.

The screenplay is by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones, adapted from Cesc Gay’s Spanish film ‘Sentimental,’ shown in English-speaking territories as ‘The People Upstairs.’ A couple invites their neighbors over for an evening that takes unexpected turns. According to the producers, the night uncovers repressed emotions and unexplored sexuality.

Rogen plays Joe, Wilde plays Angela, Cruz plays Piña, a psychotherapist and sexologist, and Norton plays Hawk. The film is dedicated to Diane Keaton, who died on October 11, 2025. It is a chamber comedy that turns darker as it goes.

The Hollywood Reporter called it a smart, sophisticated, and incisively acted adult entertainment that savages the institution of marriage. It described the film as Wilde’s more assured third outing as director. RogerEbert.com said the dramedy finds itself, and KQED praised Cruz for refusing to reduce her character to a stereotype.

The film holds a Metascore of 77. Letterboxd viewers have been effusive, with one calling it Rogen’s most uncomfortably relatable performance and another calling it the best use of Norton in decades. The buzz has helped it stay in theaters longer than many comedies.

Wilde has said she fought to keep the film in cinemas. At a press conference at the Locarno Film Festival in August, she explained that the financiers can earn far more by going to streaming. She said, “They bribe you” to skip theatrical, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

She added that she was lucky her financier let her make the decision. She also said she has heard from audiences that laughing with strangers has been cathartic. Locarno hosted the European premiere on the Piazza Grande, in front of about 8,000 people.

The tour has also become a showcase for her style. At the Paris premiere, she wore a Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 2026 Prince of Wales check suit with a burgundy lavallière blouse. Red Carpet Fashion Awards said it had missed her in tailoring, recalling her earlier Bella Freud era.

Her co-stars Cruz and Rogen were at TIFF promoting other projects at the time, so Wilde carried the tour. That left the spotlight on her, and she made the most of it. The new gray suit continues that theme.
