‘One Piece’ Pauses Again as Creator Eiichiro Oda Faces Health Issues
The One Piece manga is taking another break after creator Eiichiro Oda’s health concerns resurfaced. Chapter 1162, originally scheduled for release last week, has now been pushed to October 12th, on the official Manga Plus app.
Fans had hoped the previous short hiatus would allow Oda to recover, but it seems more time is needed.
According to @WSJ_manga on X, the chapter will now see another one-week delay. Mangakas like Oda often face grueling schedules, and health issues are not uncommon. Weekly Shonen Jump authors typically take breaks every three to four weeks, but multiple consecutive pauses can happen when a creator falls ill.
One Piece has been serialized weekly since 1997, and the intense workload has clearly taken a toll on its author.

After the unexpected last break, Shonen Jump issued an apology to fans. However, since Chapter 1163’s delay was announced in advance, there may not be a new official update regarding Oda’s condition this time.
Fans continue to express concern for the mangaka, especially as he balances the ongoing manga with work on the upcoming live-action adaptation’s second season.
It’s always worrying when a long-running series pauses due to a creator’s health. One Piece has been a part of many fans’ lives for decades, and Oda’s well-being is more important than any chapter release. How do you feel about these repeated breaks? Share your thoughts in the comments.
