Selena Gomez’s love of a little red dress is no secret. She wore a strapless red mini for her 31st birthday, a deep red cowl-neck mini at last year’s benefit and a red floral gown for her return to the VMAs.

This week, she brought the color back for a cause close to her heart. Gomez hosted the fourth annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Oct. 14, an evening that supports the mental health charity she founded in 2020.

The fund is tied to her beauty brand, Rare Beauty, which donates 1% of all sales to expand access to mental health services and education for young people. It has raised more than $20 million and supported 30 nonprofit partners across five continents, and Gomez has said she hopes to reach $100 million. Past editions have drawn big names, including Jimmy Kimmel as host last year, with performances from The Marías.

For this year’s event, Gomez chose a custom Prada gown in a bold red. The strapless design was covered in embellishments and had a structured, peplum-style waist, and she paired it with matching red satin pumps.

The dress didn’t stay at the benefit for long. On Thursday, Gomez posted a TikTok of the look set to ‘Burnin’ Up’ by the Jonas Brothers, captioning it to say she was feeling nostalgic.

The timing is the fun part. As the 2008 song reached its high heels line, she revealed her red pumps, and when the camera panned up to the shimmering dress, she lip-synced Nick Jonas’ famous red dress ad-lib before bursting into laughter. The clip reportedly passed 15 million views.

It’s a playful callback to a chapter many fans remember. Gomez appeared in the song’s June 2008 music video as Nick’s love interest, and the pair dated from 2008 to 2010. The Jonas Brothers have never officially confirmed who inspired the song, though its association with Gomez has stuck around for years.

Their romance began shortly after Nick split from Miley Cyrus, and it was brief and on and off. Gomez has called it puppy love in the past, and both stars have since shown they can laugh about it. In 2018, she confronted Nick on BBC Radio 1 about a Central Park double date, and he took the ribbing in stride.

Both have moved on in a big way. Nick married Priyanka Chopra in 2018, and Gomez is engaged to producer Benny Blanco. That makes the TikTok feel less like a flirtation and more like a friendly wink at a shared pop-culture moment.

Beyond the viral video, the evening carried real weight. Gomez used the night to introduce the Katherine Short Legacy Award, paying tribute to her ‘Only Murders in the Building’ co-star Martin Short’s late daughter, Katherine. She also posted afterward that she felt grateful to be surrounded by people who believe in the mission, as the fund aims to give young people better access to care and more people who know how to show up when it matters.

The benefit has become one of the highlights of her fashion calendar too. Last year she changed from a mauve mini into a burgundy one during the event, and earlier this year she wore a pink Prada mini at a Rare Beauty launch party.

All of it adds up to a signature moment for Gomez, mixing a standout look, a bit of nostalgia and a serious mission. For fans who grew up on the Disney era, hearing ‘Burnin’ Up’ again with her in a red dress was the perfect throwback.

What did you think of Selena Gomez’s red-dress TikTok set to the Jonas Brothers’ “Burnin’ Up”?
