A Little History

The origin of Pixie is pretty straightforward.

Pixie was created by Nunzio DeFilippis, Christina Weir, and Michael Ryan. She first appeared inside the pages of New X-Men: Academy X #5 in November of 2004.

When first introduced, Pixie was depicted as a fun-loving teenage mutant who embraced her mutation. At this time, she was a capable flier and could cause hallucinations in others after exposing them to her “pixie” dust. As one of many new mutants created by Marvel during the early 2000s, she would’ve most likely fallen into obscurity had the events of M-Day not restored reality and brought Magik back to life.

Belasco (the former ruler of the Limbo Dimension) felt that his one time apprentice (Magik) was back in existence. Unable to find her, however, he created a soulless version of Magik’s demonic form, Darkchild. While Belasco was busy overthrowing the Limbo Dimension’s current ruler, this version of Darkchild escaped from him.

Belasco came to realize that Magik had been at the Xavier Institute For Higher Learning. Instead of going to the school to find her, he pulled the entire school into Limbo. Once there and realizing that Darkchild had escaped, he imprisoned and tortured the students for information as to her whereabouts. Around the same time this was happening, Darkchild helped a small group of children escape into the wilderness of the Limbo Dimension. She promised that she could help them rescue their classmates. This, however, came at a great cost. In exchange for her help, she required that Pixie give up her soul. Doing so would allow her to create a Bloodstone. Although she Pixie agreed, the process didn’t go uninterrupted. Due to interference by Anole, only a small portion of her soul was taken. As a consequence, where her soul once rested was now filled with black magic. This process gave Pixie a degree of magical powers and the ability to call her version of the Soulsword, The Souldagger.

With the Souldagger in tow, the mutants were able to defeat Belasco and flee the Limbo Dimension.

And that’s it. The origin of Pixie.
