Netflix is sending fans back to the Outer Banks one final time. The streaming platform has announced that the fifth and final season of the hit series will premiere on August 20, giving viewers their first look at the last chapter of the Pogues’ story.

Along with the release date, Netflix also shared new images from the upcoming season. The announcement comes more than a year after fans last saw the group in Season 4, leaving many waiting for answers after the dramatic events of the previous episodes.

Netflix renewed Outer Banks for its final season in November 2024, shortly before the second part of Season 4 arrived. At the time, creators and executive producers Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke shared a message with fans about bringing the series to an end.

“We hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season 5 will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you’ll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break,” the creators said.

The final season will include 10 episodes, with each episode running for about an hour. The main cast will return, including Chase Stokes as John B, Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, Madison Bailey as Kiara, Jonathan Daviss as Pope and Carlacia Grant as Cleo.

Drew Starkey, Austin North, Fiona Palomo, J. Anthony Crane and Cullen Moss will also return as the story moves toward its conclusion.

The new season will pick up after a heartbreaking loss for the group. According to Netflix’s official description, the Pogues are struggling after JJ’s death in Morocco. They have lost the Blue Crown, are far from home and are facing new dangers from enemies who continue to hunt them.

The final journey will see John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope and Cleo trying to survive while dealing with threats from Chandler Groff, Dalia and the Corsairs. The group will also have to deal with the Kooks once again, leaving them with very few places to turn.

Netflix described the final season as a desperate fight for the Pogues’ future as they try to honor their lost friend and finally achieve the freedom they have been chasing since the beginning.

The upcoming episodes will also explore an unexpected partnership, as the Pogues are forced to work with Rafe while trying to overcome their biggest challenges yet.

Since its debut in 2017, Outer Banks has become one of Netflix’s popular teen adventure dramas. The series has built a large fan base thanks to its mix of friendship, mystery, treasure hunts and action.

The final season is expected to bring the long-running story of the Pogues to a close, with the creators promising that the ending will deliver the kind of conclusion fans have been waiting for.

As the August premiere approaches, viewers will soon find out how John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope and Cleo’s final adventure will end.
