‘Outer Banks’ Just Dropped Its Final Trailer, and the Pogues Might Be About to Break the Rules of Life and Death

Six years is a long time to spend chasing gold, dodging bullets, and falling in and out of trouble alongside the same group of friends, and now that journey is finally reaching its last chapter. Netflix has officially confirmed that ‘Outer Banks‘ is coming to an end, and the streamer just gave fans their most emotional look yet at how it all wraps up.

The Pogues have spent four seasons building a devoted following through their mix of treasure-hunting adventure and messy teen romance, but Season 4’s finale left the group shattered in a way the show had never attempted before. That devastating turn set the stage for what’s shaping up to be the most personal, high-stakes chapter in the entire series.

Netflix has now released the final trailer for ‘Outer Banks’ Season 5, and it confirms the emotional core of this last ride: the Pogues are determined to avenge JJ Maybank’s death, and Kiara believes the mythical Blue Crown might actually be capable of bringing him back. In the trailer, Kiara tells the group directly that legend says the crown can resurrect the dead, according to Netflix’s own Tudum breakdown of the footage.

That possibility sends the crew back into danger, chasing down Chandler Groff, who still holds the crown after killing JJ during the group’s ill-fated trip to Morocco. According to the season’s official synopsis, John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo are left stranded far from home and grieving, while also facing down a growing list of threats that includes Dalia and the Corsairs closing in and the Kooks ensuring the group has nowhere left to call home.

Complicating things further is Rafe, who has spent the past couple of seasons slowly working his way into the Pogues’ inner circle despite years of animosity between the groups. The trailer shows Rafe getting pulled directly into the danger alongside his former enemies, including a tense gunfight with Groff and an armed standoff inside a moving vehicle.

Determination runs through every frame of the footage, with Kiara telling John B in one especially charged moment that she isn’t letting Groff win, according to the same Tudum trailer breakdown. That resolve fuels the group through knife fights, motorcycle chases, and explosive set pieces that suggest this final season is aiming to be the most action-packed installment the series has ever produced.

Along with the trailer, Netflix confirmed all 10 episodes of the final season will premiere together on August 20. The streamer is also hosting a special send-off event called Pogues for Life: A Fan Farewell Event on August 15 in Los Angeles, featuring an on-stage conversation with cast members Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Carlacia Grant, and Drew Starkey.

That fan event will also debut the inaugural fan-voted OBX Awards, with voting opening on Tudum in early August, and attendees will get an advance screening of the season’s very first episode. It’s a fitting send-off for a series that built its entire identity around loyal, tight-knit friendship, giving longtime viewers a chance to celebrate alongside the cast before the show’s ending airs.

Whether the Blue Crown actually holds the power Kiara believes it does, or whether that hope is simply grief clouding her judgment, remains one of the season’s central mysteries heading into its release. Either way, ‘Outer Banks’ looks determined to send its Pogues out with the same reckless, heart-on-sleeve energy that made the show a phenomenon in the first place.
