‘Outer Banks’ Season 5 Character Posters Signal One Final, Sun-Soaked Ride for the Pogues

Netflix’s beloved treasure-hunting drama has spent five seasons building a devoted fanbase around its tight-knit group of island friends, and the show is finally preparing to say its last goodbye. ‘Outer Banks‘ has racked up nearly 200 million views across its run and landed on Netflix’s Top 10 English TV list a remarkable 25 times, cementing its place as one of the streamer’s most enduring young-adult hits.

That run comes to a close with Season 5, which picks up in the immediate aftermath of Season 4’s gut-wrenching finale, when Chandler Groff killed his own son, JJ Maybank, right in front of Kiara. According to the official synopsis, the new season finds the Pogues at their absolute breaking point following that loss, stranded far from home, having lost the Blue Crown, and still facing a gauntlet of familiar threats as they mourn the heart of their crew.

Ahead of the season’s arrival, Netflix has now released a set of character posters teasing the show’s final stretch, each bathed in warm, sunset-toned lighting that visually reinforces the sense of an ending. The imagery leans into a bittersweet, golden-hour aesthetic, a fitting visual metaphor for a series built around beaches, treasure, and the fading light of one last adventure.

Season 5 will bring back the show’s core ensemble, including Chase Stokes as John B, Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, Madison Bailey as Kiara, Jonathan Daviss as Pope, and Carlacia Grant as Cleo, alongside Drew Starkey’s Rafe, Austin North’s Topper, and Fiona Palomo’s Sofia. J. Anthony Crane returns as the season’s central antagonist, Chandler Groff, alongside Cullen Moss as Shoupe, rounding out a cast built to close out the story that began back in 2020.

Unlike Season 4, which was split into two separate batches released four weeks apart, all 10 episodes of Season 5 will drop simultaneously on August 20, marking a return to Netflix’s traditional binge-release model. That shift means fans won’t have to wait through another staggered rollout to see how the Pogues’ story ultimately wraps up.

Creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke have previously told Deadline that once the finale arrives, fans should feel satisfied that everything comes together and every storyline gets properly wrapped up. That promise carries extra weight given how emotionally charged the show’s ending has already proven to be following JJ’s death, with the surviving Pogues now driven by a mix of grief and vengeance heading into the final chapter.

Filming for the season took the production well beyond its usual Charleston, South Carolina base, with cast member Madelyn Cline previously describing the shoot in Croatia as an especially memorable stretch of production. That international detour adds another new setting to a series that has consistently sent its characters chasing treasure across the globe.

Beyond the show itself, Netflix has also planned a farewell event titled “Pogues for Life: A Fan Farewell Event,” scheduled for August 15 in Los Angeles and featuring appearances from Stokes, Cline, Bailey, Daviss, Grant, and Starkey. The event will include a fan-voted award show, the inaugural Pogue Awards, along with an early screening of the season’s first episode ahead of its official streaming debut.

With the sun visually setting on these character posters and a fittingly emotional final season on the horizon, ‘Outer Banks’ looks positioned to close out its story with the same blend of adventure, heart, and heartbreak that made it a fan favorite in the first place.
