‘P-Valley’ Season 3 First Look Is Here: Here’s What We Know About the Premiere, Plot, and Cast

Starz built one of its most acclaimed original dramas around a strip club in the Mississippi Delta, and ‘P-Valley’ has spent two seasons proving that Katori Hall’s vision could turn a regional setting into must-watch television. The series has racked up an Emmy nomination and multiple NAACP Image Awards, including a win for Outstanding Drama Series, since debuting in 2020.

Fans have been waiting an unusually long time for more. Season 2 wrapped back in August 2022, and production on the follow-up was delayed by the 2023 industry strikes before finally getting underway in May 2024, leaving a gap of more than four years between seasons.

That wait is finally coming to an end, but with bittersweet news attached. Starz has confirmed that ‘P-Valley’ Season 3 will premiere Friday, December 4, with two back-to-back episodes, and that this upcoming nine-episode run will also be the series’ last.

According to the season’s official logline, the story picks up as the dancers and staff at The Pynk contend with the opening of a casino in their town of Chucalissa, Mississippi, proving that more money brings more mayhem for everyone involved. Dreamers, schemers, ballers, and hustlers alike are drawn to town for a shot at fortune, and the season promises to test how far each character is willing to go to secure their piece of it.

Creator and showrunner Katori Hall directed both premiere episodes herself, with new installments dropping weekly on Fridays through the STARZ app and all Starz streaming and on-demand platforms afterward. Hall also penned an emotional farewell letter to fans alongside the announcement, writing that there comes a moment when every stripper must hang up her heels.

The cast list for Season 3 is stacked with familiar faces from the show’s run so far. Nicco Annan returns as Uncle Clifford, alongside Brandee Evans, Shannon Thornton, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Harriett D. Foy, and Dan J. Johnson reprising their roles.

Rounding out the ensemble are Gail Bean, Psalms Salazar as Whisper, Morocco Omari as Big L, Dominic DeVore as Duffy, Jordan M. Cox as Derrick, Thomas Q. Jones as Mane, Bertram Williams Jr. as Woddy, Mea Wilkerson as Haiku, and Loretta Devine as Ernestine. Lionsgate Television produces the series for Starz, with Jennifer Arnold, Debbie Hayn-Cass, Kemiyondo Coutinho, and Ian Olympio serving as co-executive producers.

‘P-Valley’ has quietly become one of Starz’s most reliable performers, with Season 2 averaging 11.6 million multiplatform viewers and the series generating more than 236 million hours watched since its debut. Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for Starz, credited the show’s success to its bold, provocative, and deeply inclusive storytelling in a statement tied to the announcement.

Hall’s decision to end the series after three seasons appears to be a deliberate creative choice rather than a cancellation, something she addressed directly in her letter to fans. She wrote that the rarest honor a showrunner can have in today’s industry is ending a series on her own terms, and that she chose to say goodbye with grace, grit, and glitter for Season 3.

The show traces back to Hall’s stage play ‘Pussy Valley,’ developed after she spent time speaking with more than 40 real dancers during her research process before it ever became a television series. A teaser trailer for the new season also debuted alongside the announcement, featuring the new single “Homegrown” from Lil’ Murda featuring FendiDa Rappa.

With a confirmed premiere date, a stacked returning cast, and a bittersweet send-off from its creator, ‘P-Valley’ looks ready to give The Pynk the finale its fans have waited years for.
