Paul Bettany Calls ‘VisionQuest’ “Super Exciting” While Praising James Spader: “Delicious to Work With”
Paul Bettany is giving fans a fresh update on VisionQuest, calling the upcoming series “moving,” “super exciting,” and a major continuation of the story that began with WandaVision.
Speaking in a recent interview on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Bettany talked about the Disney+ series and described it as a big creative step for the Marvel world. According to him, the show feels like part of a larger trilogy while still standing on its own.
He said, “It manages to feel very much like it’s somehow a part of that world, an end to a trilogy of sorts, whilst also being very much its own thing, and it is just really good. I’m really proud of it.”
Bettany added that the project has been in post-production for a long time and continues to improve as visual effects are added. He said the final version is shaping up in a way that keeps surprising him.
He explained, “I keep seeing cuts of it that just are getting better and better, and then, as all the effects get placed in — it’s funny, it’s moving and it’s super exciting. [Showrunner Terry Matalas] did a grand job.”
VisionQuest is set after the events of WandaVision and continues the story of Vision, the android played by Bettany. The character is trying to rebuild his memory and understand his identity after his death and return in earlier Marvel stories.
The series also brings back James Spader as Ultron. Bettany spoke warmly about working with him again, calling the experience fun and memorable.
He said, “He is delicious. He’s so funny in this; it’s so delicious to watch him, and we loved working together.”
Alongside Bettany and Spader, the show includes Todd Stashwick as Paladin, a mercenary targeting Vision’s technology, and Faran Tahir, returning as Raza from Iron Man (2008).
Bettany also described the relationship between Vision and Ultron as a key part of the story, but he avoided revealing too much about how the villain returns or how he appears in the series.
VisionQuest is expected to debut on October 14 on Disney+, with fans now waiting to see how it connects the wider Marvel storyline and completes the arc that started with WandaVision.
